iCANPLAY/NURSERY
Learning Journey
This week we have been revising all the animals we have been learning through out the learning block. We explored tuff spot tray activities such as Arctic and Antarctic animals in the snow, African animals in the soil, leaves and branches. We also drew our favourite animals around the world.
For our Exit Point we enjoyed playing with small world animal toys sharing our knowledge and understanding through information books and pictures. We also explored a large world map to find out the continents and which animal lives in which continent.
Maths
This week in maths we have been revising our counting skills and number recognition. We have also been practising to form recognisable numbers. We enjoyed counting number games using the interactive white board. We had fun revising 2D shapes through playing cooperative structure games such as Showdown and Mix-pair-share.
Literacy
This week in we have been revising all the Phase one seven aspects. We practised learning environmental sounds, instrumental sounds, body percussion, rhythm and rhyme, alliteration, voice sounds and oral blending and segmenting.
We enjoyed building with wooden blocks making houses for dinosaurs and jungle animals.
RECEPTION
Learning Journey
This week we have been sharing the story The Gingerbread Man. We enjoyed designing and making our own gingerbread men. Luckily ours did not run away from us! We also worked cooperatively in pairs to order and retell the story and the famous lines. We enjoyed colouring the story of gingerbread man and arranged them in sequence. We also practised what the Gingerbread Man and the Fox said.
Literacy
This week in Phonics, all the groups were recapping all the letter sounds done in the different groups.
In ICT we have been practising counting, ordering and matching numbers 1-10.Have a go at home on:Topmarks
Maths
This week we have been learning all about ordering numbers up to 20 and beyond. We made our own gingerbread men, baked them and decorated them with raisins and sprinklers. Later we eat them before they run away during our snack break.

Learning Journey
This week we have been learning about Australian animals. We used non-fiction books and video clips to extend our knowledge of animals in Australia such as kangaroo, koala bear, emu and wombat. We had fun observing and exploring animals around the world in our Tuff Spot tray, using a magnifying glass and books. In arts and crafts we enjoyed making koala bear masks and 3D kangaroo with toilet rolls. We also painted and drew pictures of Australian animals. We extended our knowledge of animals by sorting animals around the world on a large world map using different continents.
Literacy
In phonics we continued practising our letters and sounds in groups. We have been working hard on our initial sounds and blending three letter words through various games and activities. We have also been practising our rhyming words through various games and on the IWB games.

We are having lots of fun with our Traditional Tales topic and this week we have been learning all about the story of The Little Red Hen. We have been very busy retelling the story and discussing it. We have also been learning how to story sequence in the correct order and have been making Little Red Hen character masks. We have been very creative making paper plate hens and pretending to be animals from the story.

In phonics – Ms. Niumai’s group has been recapping phase 2 phonics and have been learning letter sounds /ear/ and /air/.
Ms. Gemma’s group is looking at the phoneme /y/. We found objects beginning with this letter sound. We have looked at the different words that begin with /w/ and /y/.
Ms. Vijaya’s group are learning /er/ and /ure/ and tricky words LOOK and DOWN.
MATHS
In Maths this week, we are recapping positional language with the story: We’re going on a Bear Hunt and by using Bee-bots. We have also been using objects and flashcards to help us with learning positional language as well as using PowerPoint and physical games.

This week we celebrated Random act of kindness and our theme was: kindness combats stress. In our day openers we talked about …
What is kindness?

We drew pictures on leaves of everyday RANDOM ACT OF KINDNESS and made a kindness tree. We also made thank you cards to our school Security Team and Food and Beverage Team.

This week we have been learning about Europe: United Kingdom’s animals. We used non-fiction books and video clips to extend our knowledge of animals in Europe such as hedgehog, badger, puffin and red squirrel. We had fun observing and exploring animals around the world in our Tuff Spot tray, using a magnifying glass and books. In arts and crafts we enjoyed making hedgehog, badger masks, a squirrel collage, and colouring and painting animals around the world.
Literacy
This week in phonics, we continued recapping Phase 1, Aspects 1-7. We also continued practising body sounds and and our letters and sounds in groups. We have been working hard on our initial sounds and blending three letter words through various games and activities. We enjoyed mark making with salt and glitter to practise writing our names.
Maths
In maths we continued to develop our counting skills and number recognition through structure games such as show down, corners and line up. We are also learning to sequence numbers and we made ladybirds and caterpillars by sequencing numbers.
RECEPTION
Learning Journey
This week we have been sharing the story The Three Billy Goats Gruff. We have been designing and making bridges for the Billy goats to trip trap over to reach the delicious grass. We worked in our teams to make a paper bridge and tested to make sure that is could stand up and was strong enough to hold a toy billy goat.

In our phonics sessions, Miss Vijaya’s group have been revisiting phase 3 sounds.. Miss Nuimai’s group have been learning the digraphs oo and ar.
Miss Gemma’s group have been practising blending and segmenting CVC words.
We extended our phonics knowledge by writing descriptive sentences about the troll and the Three Billy Goats Gruff. We also worked on colouring the pictures of the three billy goat and arranged them in a story map.
Maths
This week in maths we have been learning about positional language and busy learning how to use the Beebot and the positional language mats of traditional tales. We also have been recapping number bonds and ordering numbers .We have been investigating all the different ways to make 5 and 10. We have also been learning to double numbers 1-10.

We are continuing our Traditional Tales topic and learning all about The Three Little Pigs story. We have been very busy designing houses for the Little Pigs and we have been working in our teams to make a house made of straw, a house made of wood and a house made of bricks.

Learning Journey
This week we have been learning about Asian and African animals. We used non-fiction books and video clips to extend our knowledge on animals. We had fun observing and exploring animals from the continents of Asia and Africa. We enjoyed making lion masks, panda and elephant hats and drawing stripes on a zebra.
MATHS
This week we continued using our super powers to add and take away through songs, rhymes and games. We also continued counting and matching the correct quantity to its number. The learners have had fun using marbles, feathers and teddies to help them with the counting activity.

In phonics we continued practising our letters and sounds in groups. We have been working hard on our initial sounds and blending three letter words through various games and activities. We have also been busy practising to write our name on sand, shaving foam and glitter.
In phonics the younger learners have been recapping Phase 1, aspect 1-3. We focused on learning– body sounds.

This week we have been learning all about the story of Little Red Riding Hood. We were very resilient when weaving Little Red Riding Hood’s baskets making sure we went over, under, over then under! We made a lovely basket to carry cookies for Grandma. We also enjoyed writing character description about the big bad wolf and little Red Riding hood.
This week we formed our new teams getting ready for Year One. We worked in these teams to colour our team sign which is a character from a traditional tale. We worked diligently and followed all our 9 Personal Goals of iCAN helping each other on our way to complete the work.
MATHS
This week in mathematics we have been learning to halve our resources and small world animals between two children. We also counted aloud in 10s all the way to 100. We have also been practising adding 2 numbers.
LITERACY
In phonics, Miss Gemma’s group have been practising blending and segmenting. Miss Vijaya’s group have been learning the diagraph oi and ow.

WELCOME BACK TO LEARNING BLOCK 6!

This week we had our entry point to introduce our new topic for this learning block Animals Around the World. We had fun observing and exploring animals from different continents. We had fun decorating cupcakes with animal faces and we enjoyed eating them afterwards – yummy! We also had fun exploring different Tuff Spot trays with animals from around the world.

In phonics we continued practising our letters and sounds in groups. We have been working hard on our initial sounds and blending three letter words through various games and activities. We have also been busy practising to write our name on sand, shaving foam and glitter.
MATHS
This week we have been using our super powers to add and take away through songs, rhymes and games. The learners have been comparing how much containers can hold and using language related to capacity. We have also been using mathematical opposites such as big or small, tall, short or long and wide or narrow through pictures and games on the interactive whiteboard.

We have had a fun week back at school this week. We had our Entry Point to introduce our new topic of Traditional Tales. We were so lucky to have two very special visitors: Goldilocks who came to tell us all about the Three Bears and gave us some yummy porridge to eat, and Little Red Riding Hood who told us all about the Big Bad Wolf. She gave us some delicious cookies to eat. We asked them lots of questions and enjoyed spending time with them.
We have been looking at the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears this week, we have been busy sorting sizes of bowls, chairs and beds from the Three Bears’ cottage and we even made porridge!
MATHS
In Maths this week, we have been trying our best with halving. We have halved different objects as well as halving our class and enjoyed Frooby the Dragon’s help with halving too.

Learning Journey
This week we have been reflecting through our topic transport using non-fiction books and cooperative structure games. We had fun making transport with pancakes and going on a transport hunt in the big school for our EXIT POINT!
What a fantastic learning block it has been! iCAN PLAY and NURSERY have been amazing learners: exploring, discovering and gaining new knowledge and practising their skills to understand the topic we have been learning throughout this learning block. They showed great resilience and thinking skills to answer the questions throughout their learning journey. The learners were also excellent enquirers asking questions of why things happen and how things work and showing care and concern for living things.
MATHS
This week in maths we have been measuring and comparing sizes of things. We have been sorting shapes and learning their names. We began to explore the features of shapes by counting sides and corners. How many corners does a triangle have? How many sides does a square have?
LITERACY
This week we have been practising our skills on segmenting and blending three letter words using games on letters and sounds programme. We enjoyed feeding Metal Mike with words. We were also practising to sound out initial sounds in words playing various games using our sandpit area.
We continued practising writing our names on sand and glitter. We made marks with wheels on paint and glitter.
RECEPTION
Reception learners were fantastic during their class assembly. They demonstrated lots of Personal Goals, especially singing the respective song which they learned as part of their jigsaw curriculum. They were great communicators and were able to say many facts relating to the different minibeasts. They co-operated with each other and were all big risk takers for performing so well at their first class assembly.
Thank you to all the families who joined us for our class assembly and our Exit Point. The children loved sharing their learning from this learning block and a fantastic way to end our Dinosaur topic, exploring the volcano eruption.

Learning Journey
This week we have been revising Transport we have been learning for the past few weeks. We enjoyed watching non-fiction video clips on transport around the world.
In our nature smart area we have been exploring leaves, sticks and stones using magnifying glasses.
In the arts and crafts area we made trains and painted with ice cubes.
MATHS
This week in maths we have been learning to recognise simple 2D shapes through playing a cooperative learning structure game called Corners. We had fun going on a shape hunt around school spotting shapes in the environment.
LITERACY
This week in phonics we have been revising rhyming words through cooperative structure game mix-pair and share. We also enjoyed making marks with sand and glitter and looking at picture books in our book area.
RECEPTION

In Reception this week we had fun going on a dinosaur hunt. We had so much fun learning and acting out the story. We are building our knowledge of dinosaur names and features and really thinking about wow words to describe each dinosaur. We have also made our very own volcano and saw it erupt! Arghhhhh!
We have been working very hard in practising for our joint assembly about mini-beasts next week and hope all our parents can join us.

We would like to welcome all the Reception families to join us for our Exit Point on Dinosaurs after the assembly. Reception parents are welcome to come to the class and go through their learning on the IPC learning wall, big books and Dinosaur fact files.

Learning Journey
This week we have continued to explore Transport. We have been using our knowledge and skills to learn more about land transport. We looked at non fiction books and video clips on land transport. We had fun making paper plate cars and trains. We liked making wheel marks with paint using big and small vehicles. We also had fun making pizza sailing boats. It was so yummy!!!!!
Maths
This week in maths we have been counting from 0 to 10 , 11 to 20 and beyond, using counters and cooperative learning structure games.
We have also been making transport with some common 2D shapes. We made a train and a bus. We also played structure game building transport with shapes.
Literacy
This week in Nursery we continued finding words that rhyme through stories and songs. We used cooperative learning structure games to practise segmenting three letter words and listening to the initial sounds in words.
In iCAN PLAY we have been practising to discriminate between sounds they hear and identify the animals and imitate the sounds.
RECEPTION

This week we have been learning all about the Pterodactyl. We looked at non-fiction books and used the internet to find out lots of information about the pterodactyl. We then used this information to write a fact file. We worked cooperatively to made a large pterodactyl using different textures.
MATHS
This week in maths we continued learning to do doubling of numbers up to 11 and using different small world toys to count. We enjoyed learning the doubling song. It is fun!

We made rafts with coloured sticks and submarines. We have also been looking at non-fiction video clips and books on transport.

This week in maths we have been practising ordering numbers 0-9 and counting 1-20. We are also learning to add 2 digit numbers through number rhymes and songs. We have also been recognising and matching numbers to quantities through structured cooperative games. We have also been learning to recognise some common 2D shapes through vehicles around the world

This week we have been learning all about the T-Rex. We looked at non-fiction books and used the internet to find out lots of information about the T-Rex. We then used this information to write a fact file. We worked cooperatively to make large T-Rex using different textures. We have also been practising some songs about the triceratops and stegosaurus. We worked collectively as a group incorporating all our personal goals in setting up and tidying up our outdoor area.
We drew pictures and wrote sentences to record what makes us happy for celebrating the World Happiness Day on 20th March.

This week we have been learning about air transport. We looked at non-fiction video clips and books on aeroplanes and airports, helicopters and hot air balloons. In art and craft we made aeroplanes with toilet rolls and decorated hot air balloons with buttons. We also enjoyed listening to stories and singing the Up, Up, Up in a Balloon song.
Maths
In maths the learners enjoyed making number puzzles. We have also been measuring vehicles with cubes and paper clips. We have been practising our counting skills with number rhymes, songs and counters.
Literacy
In our phonics sessions we will continue tuning into sounds using various games and resources such as ‘Metal Mike’ and flash cards. We will also continue to play games to help us learn rhyming words.
Reception

This week we have been looking at the dinosaur Stegosaurus. We looked at the features of a stegosaurus and tried hard to describe them. We made a large collage stegosaurus and tried our best to write words and sentences about a stegosaurus. We stuck pasta for bones onto dinosaurs and been looking at lots of new vocabulary linked with dinosaurs and palaeontologists.

In maths we have been sorting smallest to biggest dinosaurs and have been learning about doubling numbers

We have been practising using wow words in sentences for Big Talk. In guided reading we now sit and read in groups, reading and discussing stories, which are building our comprehension and understanding skills.
We have been busy drawing dinosaurs and writing the names of them in our writing journals this week.
We will be working on our personal goal: RESPECTFUL. We have discussed the meaning of being respectful and how we can work on being respectful at school and at home.
We are also thinking of International Happiness Day for next week and what makes us happy and how we can make others happy.

This week in Early years we celebrated book week with our wonderful story teller Mr.Phil! Throughout the week we have been having fun communicating through story telling and role playing; nursery rhymes; and singing action songs. We also had fun using our imagination to create stories and role play them.

ENTRY POINT
Our topic for Learning block 5 is TRANSPORT. This week we have been learning about different transport names around the world. We used non-fiction books and video clips to find out more information on transport people use around the world.
For our Entry Point we enjoyed exploring different stations such as Airport, Bus Stop , Harbour and train station. We made a 3D aeroplane, bus and a boat and we had fun having ago in it. We also brought in our own transport to share and rode scooters and bikes.
Our role play area for this learning block is set up as a TRAVEL AGENTS! We have been very busy checking flights, booking cruises and issuing train tickets and bus tickets etc.!
MATHS
This week in maths we have been making shapes with different transport and sorting vehicles into air, water and land.
LITERACY
This week in phonics we have been revising initial sounds of s,a,t,i,p,n and blending and segmenting three letter words.
We have also been drawing and painting our favourite transport.
RECEPTION
ENTRY POINT
In Learning block 5 we’re learning about DINOSAURS! This week we had our Entry Point and the learners were very excited becoming palaeontologists and went digging for dinosaur bones in the sand pit. Everyone was very resilient, adaptable and worked cooperatively to find all of the dinosaur bones. Once we had found all of the dinosaur bones we worked together to assemble the bones to make a huge T-REX.

This week in Maths we have been learning simple addition through songs, games and activities.

CREATIVE ARTS WEEK!
In our Creative Arts Week Celebration we have been exploring Cambodia through music, dance , transport and animals.
In music Mr. Korn has been helping our Early Years learners to play the Chapey traditional Cambodian musical instrument. We had so much fun exploring the instruments and making our own cardboard Chapey.
In dance Ms. Mom has been teaching Cambodian traditional dance. We had so much fun learning different traditional Cambodian dances.
In art we decorated a 3D cyclo and design Cambodian kroma with Ms. Maggie.
We had so much fun exploring and riding a cyclo!
Reception learners had a wonderful opportunity with Year 1 to join Epic arts workshop. They enjoyed learning different ways of communicating through hand signals and dance.

This week we had our EXIT POINT celebrating our learning all about Patterns. We had fun making patterns on our faces and arms, ducks and frogs and on pizza. We also enjoyed eating the delicious PIZZA!

Learning Journey
This week we continued making repeated patterns with numbers, colours, shapes and objects. We enjoyed making repeated patterns on caterpillars and butterflies.
MATHS
In maths we have been learning to recognise numbers 1-10 through structures. We practised writing numbers on sand using our fingers and brushes. We also enjoyed making and drawing patterns on butterflies.
LITERACY
In literacy we had fun listening to and looking at a wide range of story books such as Elmer, The Very Hungry Caterpillar and Farmer Duck. We looked at fiction and non— fiction books and also discovered what an illustrator and an author are and what they contribute to the book?
In our swimming session we had fun practising to kick in the water, blowing bubbles, blowing bubbles with the head in the water and making circles. We also had fun singing and acting out the song in the water ,The boat in the water goes round and round………
In our music session we had fun making music patterns.

Learning Journey
We have been looking at ladybirds as part of our Mini-Beast topic. We have looked at their colours and counted their spots. We made our own paper ladybirds and celebrated our learning topic with our EXIT POINT going on a field trip to ISPP’s Butterfly Garden and saw lots of beautiful butterflies of different sizes and colours. We had a lovely time!
MATHS
In Maths this week, we have been recapping ordinal numbers, capacity and have been matching flowers to the correct number as well as ordering leaves and insects.
LITERACY
In phonics – Ms. Niumai’s group have been looking at one letter two sound diagraphs.
Ms. Gemma’s group are blending CVC words and tricky words.
Ms. Vijaya’s group are recapping S/A/T/P/I/N.
We have been practising using wow words in sentences for Big Talk. In guided reading we now sit and read in groups, we try to read books a colour band above what we read, this will help us with our comprehension and understanding of the stories.
We have been busy drawing mini-beast and flowers in our journals as well as draw what we saw at the butterfly garden. We have been listening to the story The Bad Tempered Ladybird.
We will be working on our new personal goal: RESILIENT. We have discussed the meaning of RESILIENT and how we can be resilient at school and at home.

Learning Journey
This week we continued exploring patterns with colours. We shared the story Brown Bear, Brown Bear What do you See? by Bill Marting Jr. We enjoyed making I spy bottles and making caterpillars with colour patterns.
Maths
In maths, we continued making repeated patterns with colours and jungle animals. We enjoyed playing pattern games on the interactive whiteboard.

In our phonics we will continue tuning into sounds using various games and resources such as ‘Metal Mike’ and flash cards.
We will practise segmenting three letter words and listening to the initial sounds in words.

Learning Journey
We have been continuing with our topic Mini-beasts by learning about the busy bees. We enjoyed looking at PowerPoints, songs, stories and pictures of butterflies. We have been busy making hats with the life cycle of a bee on it. We also used our phonic skills to write the initial sounds of the bee. We shared the story and later watched the video of The Very Greedy Bee by Steve Smallman. Later, we watched the video of how the bee collects nectar from the flowers and make honey. We enjoyed doing cooking activities like making wobbly jelly and spreading honey on bread. In our nature smart area we have been looking and observing minibeasts using a magnifying glass.
Literacy
In Phonics some of the learners are learning ‘w’ and ‘x’ sounds and the other learners are recapping blending and segmenting of Phase 2 sounds.
MATHS
In maths we have been recapping all about 2D and 3D shapes. We went into detail about hexagons and made a hexagon shaped bee hive.

EARLY YEARS SPORTS DAY!
The Learners in Early Years were absolute sports stars and were brilliant at showing the fantastic skills that they had been learning in PE. The learners also truly showed their resilience and cooperation skills during the events. It was great to see so many families come along to cheer for the teams. Thank you for your support.

Learning Journey
We are enjoying our topic of Minibeasts this learning block. This week we looked at flowers and leaves and learned how flowers grow as well as names of flowers.
What is your favourite flower?
We made some pretty leaf prints and colourful flower drawings. We used different shapes to make flower pictures and wrote our names on leaves. We also watched a time lapse of a sunflower growing too!
Literacy
This week in phonics, we are now in groups and are working on the phase that suits our needs. Ms. Niumai’s group is working on phase 3 and Ms. Gemma’s group is working on blending CVC words. Ms. Vijaya’s group is recapping s/a/t/p/i/n. We have been practising using wow words in sentences for Big Talk.
We are excited to take home our blue bags with our reading books from school so we can practise our reading at home.
We drew life cycle of a butterfly in our writing journals and wrote out parts of a flower on a template. We have been listening to The Tiny Seed story book and The Hungry Caterpillar.
Maths
In Maths this week, we have ordering leaves in size order and have looked at different sized sunflowers. We also created symmetry patterns on butterflies.
We are still working very hard on our personal goal: PRINCIPLED. We have discussed the meaning of PRINCIPLED and take responsibilities for our actions, be honest and make good choices.

This week we have been looking at Nature Patterns. We looked at patterns on animals around the world. We enjoyed sharing the story Elmer and created different patterns on elephants.
Literacy
In Literacy, we have been sharing the story Elmer by David McKee. We continued to practise writing our names using different materials. In phonics we have been practising rhyming words and initial sounds in words.
MATHS
In maths, we enjoyed making different patterns with teddies, Lego and animals. We enjoyed playing pattern games on the interactive whiteboard.

This week we have been continuing our topic of “Mini-beasts” by learning about the life cycle of a butterfly. We enjoyed looking at powerpoints, songs, stories and pictures of butterfly. We have been busy making the life cycle of a butterfly using pastas, lentils and dry twigs. We also used our phonic skills to write the initial sounds of the different stages of the life cycle. We shared the story and later watched the video of the very hungry caterpillar by Eric Carle. Later we watched the video of the life cycle of a monarch butterfly. We enjoyed doing an activity trying to recollect what the caterpillar ate during the different days of the week.
Literacy
In phonics we have been revisiting all the letter sounds, tricky words and high frequency words of Phase 2 of Letters and Sounds. We are learning to segment and blend CVC words and have been using magnetic letters and boards to spell three letter words. We also continue using wow words in sentences for Big Talk and we have been trying to read words in our guided reading lessons using the big books. We made a caterpillar using green circles and wrote our names on it.
Maths
We learned about the different days of the week and what activities we do on each day. We also discussed about their favourite day and why. We also counted how many times we could jump or clap our hands in one minute.

Welcome back to another exciting , fun filled learning block 4!
iCANPLAY/NURSERY
Learning Journey
This week we started our new topic: PATTERNS! We had so much fun making patterns of different sizes from the story Goldilocks and the Three Bears. We acted out the story in our role play area and made patterns with bears, spoons, beds, chairs and bowls. We had fun going on a pattern hunt and making porridge.
LITERACY
This week we have been recapping rhyming words through stories and playing games such as rhyming soup and cross the river.
MATHS
This week we have been comparing sizes and recreating patterns from the story Goldilocks and the Three Bears.
RECEPTION
Learning Journey
We had a happy and fun welcome first week back by starting learning block 4 with our new topic of MINIBEASTS. We are investigating what mini-beasts are this week and we really enjoyed going on a mini-beasts hunt for our Entry Point. We looked all around the school and garden with magnifying glasses and we took pictures of all the mini-beasts that we found. We were surprised to see so many insects and had a discussion about them after the adventure. We made paper plate ladybirds and bees, and pipe cleaner legged spiders. We used insect stencils to create colourful pictures and made mini-beasts using junk materials
LITERACY
This week we have been recapping all of phase 2 letter sounds and tricky words. We have been practising using WOW words in sentences for Big Talk and we have been trying to read words in our guided reading lessons with the big books. We were excited to discuss and draw our holidays and have been looking at names and pictures of different mini-beasts and have been trying to write them. We drew our favourite mini-beasts in our journals too!
