Are you moving to a new milepost or even a new school?
What are you excited about?
Are you feeling any other emotions?
IPC Learning Journey
This week we started to plan and make our own 3D maps on a magical, imaginary land. First we came to a consensus on what we wanted to include on our map. After that, we planned a 2D map remembering to use a key. Then things started to get messy! We can’t wait to continue our 3D maps next week. I wonder what the final result will look like.
Year 1
In LITERACY we learnt about recipes and we learned to sequence a recipe to make a gingerbread man. We know this story very well, so we decided to make gingerbread men this week! YUM!
In MATHS we have been very Internationally minded when working with British coins, which was great! We learned about pounds and pence. We had a shop and bought and sold different items using those coins. What great fun! Later, we have done some great addition using coins.
Year 2
his week in LITERACY we recapped Zeraffa Giraffa which is based on a true story about a giraffe that goes on a journey from Africa to France. We have been learning about which habitat is more appropriate for a giraffe and have started planning persuasive letters explaining our points of view.
In MATHS we have been learning about shape. We made a 2D drawing of a robot using different shapes and then used this to create our own 3D robots. We selected the appropriate nets and cut and decorated each one before sticking them altogether. We think the finished results look robo-tastic! What do you think?
For taking great risks when using addition coins.
I’m always the first to sit on the mat ready to learn!
I showed great focus and thinking skills when drawing a square, carefully measuring each line.
I am a great thinker and try my best in all my learning.

Our next Talk Topic is …..Birthdays
With the Kings Birthday next week it might be a good time to reflect on birthdays.
How do we celebrate birthdays?
Do all cultures celebrate the same?
Year 1
We practised using dictionaries again this week and are getting much better at finding words. We then tried to put the new words we’d learned in a sentence. It was a great challenge!
In maths we continued our measuring by looking at how we can measure mass. It was great to use the scales and we tried really hard to compare different objects; finding which were heavier or lighter.
To celebrate the end of our Shakespeare topic, Year 2 were lucky enough to watch a famous scene from A Midsummer Night’s Dream. The Year 7s performed a fabulous enactment of Queen Titania and King Oberon’s quarrel in the woods.
Some of our best risk takers also took to the stage as they read out their favourite piece of writing, based on A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Ms Clare was very impressed with our adventurous adjectives and even spotted a few similes. Well done everyone!
Year 2
In LITERACY we a have been creating spooky spells. We took our inspiration from reading Macbeth and listening to the three witches. We tried to included rhyme, alliteration and lots of creepy adjectives. We used our best witches voices to act out our poems – they were spell-tastic!
In MATHS this week we have been thinking and learning about time. We have been asking time questions such as- ‘How long does it take me to eat my breakfast?’ and ‘How many times could I walk around the garden in an hour?’ We have been practising telling the time and ordering different times so now there’s no excuse for us being late!
I have been a great communicator in geography, sharing my observations and feelings.
I have been a great noise monitor this week!
I showed my super thinking skills in literacy when I included lots of rhyming words in my spooky spell poem.

What happens to all the plastic that gets thrown away?
Do you follow the 3 Rs? (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle)
How can we help protect the environment?
IPC Learning Journey
We continued our GEOGRAPHY learning by looking at attractive and unattractive features in our local area and coastal environments. We were shocked to discover the horrible condition some of our beaches and oceans are in, so decided to create posters to help highlight the impact all this pollution is having on our planet.
Year 1
In Literacy we’ve been working on learning the alphabet. We have learned that letters not only have a sound; like we learn in phonics, they all have a letter name too. Lots of us already knew them. Then we had a go at ordering words in alphabetical order. Do you know dictionaries are ordered in alphabetical sequence as well? We also practised our dictionary skills; looking up words and finding the definitions. Great work!
In MATHS we have been measuring the capacity of a variety of jugs by using the ml scale on the side of the jug for accurate results. We have also been comparing different levels of water within jugs and deciding if the jugs were nearly empty, half empty, half full, nearly full or full.
Year 2
We finished reading A Midsummer Night’s Dream this week. What a funny story! We had lots of fun acting out our own versions of the story. We thought about what other mischievous tricks Puck might get up to and then wrote about it in our books. We tried to include lots of description and create a comedic effect. Next, we will start to look at another of Shakespeare’s famous plays; Macbeth.
In MATHS this week we have been learning all about how to measure temperature- we measured water temperature, body temperature and the difference between the temperature in the classroom and outside. We have also been ranking different quantities and explaining our reasons using mathematical language.
I showed some great map skills in geography!
I have using super presentation in my learning journey book.
I have been a risk taker when choosing words to create my own similes.

Our Next Talk Topic is …..Travel
Where is the most interesting country you have visited?
Where would you love to travel to if you could?
Who would you take with you on your trip?
Year 1
In LITERACY Year 1 wrote a recount this week. We know some features of recounts; like chronological order, past tense, writing in the first person and time connectives. Lots of us remembered time-connectives from learning earlier this year; first, next, then, later, finally. The we had lots of opportunities to talk about events in the past. Some of us chose to write about the Khmer New Year holiday last week and others wrote about International Day! Some even included exciting adjectives in their writing, too. What a great way of sharing our experiences!
In MATHS we have been learning about coordinates. We went on a treasure hunt and successfully found buried treasure using our coordinate skills.
IPC Learning Journey
MP1 have been finding out all about journeys as we started our geography learning this week. Lots of us went on a journey over the Khmer New Year break. We plotted our trips on a map and started to think in more detail about our journeys; how long did it take? What mode of transport did we use? Did we pass any other countries along the way? We also began reading aboutZeraffa Giraffa. She went on a very long journey! We’re excited to find out about all the different places she visited next week.
Year 2
In LITERACY we have been reading A Midsummer Night’s Dream, based on the play by William Shakespeare. We looked closely at the characters, particularly Oberon and Titania; king and queen of the fairies. We explored lots of new adventurous adjectives to create mysterious, magical descriptions.
This week in MATHS we have been learning how to measure capacity. We have been practising reading different scales and have even made our own potion recipes by mixing different measures of coloured water. We also looked at mass; this means how heavy an object is. We weighed different objects and tried to predict which would be heavier/lighter than 1kg.
Ms Annemiek loved my great enthusiasm when trying to find coordinates on a grid in maths this week.
I did some super reading in Literacy.
I was very resilient in maths counting the different interval on a measuring jug.
I have been an enquirer and learnt about the differences between different countries.

We’ve all gone potty for pots in MP1 this week! We have been busy designing and creating our own paper pots based on the designs from Ancient Greece.
Did you know the Ancient Greeks used to decorate their pots with images from the stories they would tell? What stories can you spot on our pots?
Year 1
In LITERACY we have carried on with our learning about Little Red Riding Hood. We learnt how to use the prefix un and what it actually means. We also thought about things the big bad wolf would say using any of those un-words we learned. Then we had a go at telling the story as if we were the Big Bad Wolf. What would he say if he told the story? After this we wrote our own story using all the things we learned!
In MATHS Year 1 have been creating patterns using cubes. They sequenced a variety of patterns and used the correct vocabulary to describe the pattern e.g. first, next, then.
Year 2
This week in LITERACY we have been learning about noun phrases and adjectives and how to turn these into expanded noun phrases to be more specific in our descriptions.
In MATHS we have been recapping our learning on different measures. We looked at the different ways we measure length, mass and capacity. We tried to measure and draw a straight line very accurately with a ruler and compared cm, mm and metres.
I was very creative when I made my own Greek theatre mask this week.
I can now use the prefix un in a sentence.
I used some great adjectives and included paragraphs in my writing about King Midas.
I am a great communicator when sharing all my facts about Greek Gods and Goddesses.

In LITERACY we started learning about a new traditional tale: Little Red Riding Hood. We already knew this story very well and were able to retell the story with ease. On Family Learning Day we were very lucky to have some extra adults in to help us learn and read about character descriptions. We learnt many new adjectives to describe characters. Later we made posters of some baddies in traditional-/fairy tales. We also had a go at writing a character description, using as many adjectives as we could think of!
In MATHS Year 1 have been learning their 10x, 5x and 3x table. We used a mixture of equipment to prove that various answers were correct and explained our reasoning.
Year 2
This week we have continued to read a range of Greek Myths in LITERACY looking at the different characters, settings, problems and resolutions. We now know all about King Midas, Theseus and the Minotaur and Pandora’s Box!
This week in MATHS we have collected data based on a packet of skittles (before we ate them). First we looked at what fraction of skittles there were of each colour. After that we presented our findings using a bar chart and a pictogram. From this we could beginning to answer questions such as most popular, least poplar and the difference between certain colours.
I was resilient when counting the 10 times table.
I used cubes to count in 3s and found the answer to 3×3=9 and 3×4=12
I used a lot of imagination to write a terrifying character description.
I am becoming a more principled and respectful learner! I really like making the right choice.

What does happiness look like?
IPC Learning Journey
Did you know that stories such as fairy-tales and fables can teach us lessons too? This week in SOCIETY MP1 have been learning about different fairy-tales and the lessons they teach us. Fairy-tales are full of heroes and villains, good and bad characters. We can learn a lot about how to …or how not to behave. Some characters are really good at showing the personal goals. What story characters can you think of that show some of our personal goals?
Year 1
In LITERACY the children have heard the story of The Little Red Hen. As Mr. Phil the storyteller did so much storytelling with MP1 last week, we wanted to learn more about stories and storytelling this week.
We listened to the story of the Little Red Hen and we acted out the story in our teams. We also had a try at retelling the story. We talked about the setting of the story and what the characters are saying. Let’s see how Year 1 will write up our stories of the Little Red Hen next week!
in MATHS Year 1 have continued learning our 2 x table. We have also answered 2x table themed word problems using cubes to help arrive at the correct answer.
Year 2
We started learning about fables in LITERACY this week. We used lots of our story telling skills from Mr. Phil to help us retell the fables. We also acted them out using freeze frames and role-play to really make the characters come to life. This also really helped us gain a greater understanding of what the characters were like in the different stories.
In MATHS this week we have been learning about money. We have looked at different currencies around the world and have used different combinations of dollars to pay for various items. We love stories and got to share some of knowledge in our knowledge harvest as we wrote down all the different characters we know from different stories. There were so many! We also practised describing some of these characters using lots of specific adjectives when playing Guess Who? Next week we are going to have a surprise guest visit …can you guess who it will be?
Year 1
In LITERACY we have been learning all about comparative and superlative adjectives.
We’ve learned how to add the suffixes –er and –est to an adjective in order to compare two or more things. For example: bigger, taller, older, youngest etc! We spent a lot of time talking and sharing ideas to use these kinds of words. Later we wrote sentences including these words.
In MATHS we continued learning about word problems. This week we focused on word problems about subtraction, often we had to find out about ‘how many are left?
We have such amazing mathematicians in Year 1; we wrote our own word problems for the learning facilitators to solve. Come and have a look next week in Family Drop-in!
Year 2
In LITERACY we read about The Pea and the Princess. We looked at different pea recipes before writing our own royal pea recipe. We then edited our work to make sure it was good enough for the Queen. We tried to include time connectives, imperative verbs and adverbs. We think the queen would really enjoy some of our recipes. What do you think?
In MATHS we have trying our best to follow directions. We checked our left and right and learnt about clockwise and anti-clockwise turns. We used these directions to help navigate a beebot around a map. We also learnt about coordinates. We practised reading, writing and plotting coordinates on a map. If you would like more practise try these websites:

February 5th, 2018
Our next Talk Topic is …..Travel
If you could go anywhere where would you go?
How many countries have you been to?
Which places are the most interesting to you – beaches, mountains, lakes, cities or the countryside?
IPC Learning Journey
We have been very internationally minded this week and learnt a lot about the different games we have here in Cambodia. It was so much fun to play different Khmer games! We also discovered some similarities between these Khmer games and games from our home countries. What games do you like to play?
Year 1
In LITERACY we continued learning about alliteration. This week we had to look for alliteration in poems. This was quite tricky as maybe not all sentences in a poem have alliteration. We worked together in partners or teams to help us come up with words that start with the same sound. Next up, we will learn to describe nouns using adjectives. This time, the adjectives and nouns need to start with the same sound as well!
In MATHS Year 1 solved a variety of addition based word problems. We highlighted important information and used new vocabulary to help answer the questions e.g. altogether, total and how many?
Year 2
This week in LITERACY we have been learning about suffixes and prefixes. A suffix is added to the end of a word whereas a prefix is attached to the beginning. We practised using less and ful at the end of a root word:
care + ful = careful
care + less = careless
We also practised adding un and dis to the beginning of a root word:
un + happy = unhappy
dis + appear = disappear
These often change the meaning of the root word. It was fun trying to use these words in sentences.
In MATHS this week we have been looking at the relationship between multiplication and division. We now understand what inverse means and we know that our knowledge of times table can help us solve division problems.
Exit Point Invitation
Come and join MP1 next week as we share all our exciting learning with you.
MP1 would like to invite parents and carers to come and listen to our learning on The Magic Toy Maker. Our Exit Point will start on Tuesday 13th February 7:45 – 8:45am. We look forward to seeing you.

Our next Talk Topic is ….3 wishes What would you wish for?
(and you can’t wish for more wishes!)
Sports Day
All our MP1 learners showed such resilience and determination. It was fantastic to see their tremendous team spirit as they cheered for their team mates. Well done MP1! If you haven’t seen them yet, here are a few of our favourite photos from sports day.
However, it seems the camera must have malfunctioned during MP1’s tug of war, so unfortunately there is no record to prove who won against the teachers and parents. We will just have to wait till next year to find out who really is stronger.
Year 1
In LITERACY this week we learnt all about alliteration. We know that alliteration with in some nouns or adjective+noun can make sentences more interesting, for example in a poem.
One of our learners brought in a bouncy ball in this week. So then we started thinking about other describing words starting with the b; like big, blue, beautiful. Can you think of any more?
1S did an amazing job in their assembly this week. They have learned a lot about sharing their learning; how to speak in a microphone or how to present their learning. Great effort!
In MATHS this week we have been learning about the sequence of numbers. We used the 100 square to help us. This is a really useful tool. We use our knowledge of counting in 2s, 5s and 10s to work out missing numbers.
Year 2
In LITERACY we practised retelling all the exciting things that happened on sports day. We tried hard to sequence the events correctly using time connectives (First, Next, Then, After, Finally) and include detail, such as our feelings or the personal goals we showed. We also had to remember to use the past tense. There are lots of rules for writing in the past tense. Can you remember what they are?
In MATHS this week we have been learning about division. We have used sharing to help us understand what division means. We are great at sharing in Year 2! We have also started to use Numicon to help us find the answers to challenging division problems.
I know lots of examples of alliteration.
Well done 1S for a super happy assembly!
I showed lots of resilience on sports day and enjoyed cheering on all my team mates!
I am a thoughtful, kind friend.

IPC Learning Journey
We continued our TECHNOLOGY learning making our own puppets. We carefully selected various materials and tools to help us and set to work. Some of us tried stitching for the first time, it was very tricky but we didn’t give up! Others used card or wood. Our finished puppets were all different shapes an sizes. We loved making our puppets come to life, making up different stories and adventures.
Year 1
In LITERACY this week we looked back on our teddy bear reports and checked for anything we could improve.
For some this meant looking at punctuation or capital letters. Other’s had to look at the grammar or spelling of some words. This next step helps us to improve our writing!
The learners in 1S have been very busy practising for their assembly. For most of the children it will be the first time on iCAN’s stage! They have been learning their lines and practising a lot on how to share their learning in the assembly next week!
In MATHS We continued counting in 2s, 5s and 10s and completed a variety of number sequences. It was great fun spotting the different patterns!
Year 2
this week in LITERACY we have been creating our own Traction Man adventures. We started my acting the adventures out, then we added speech bubbles and thought bubbles to digital images of us in action and finally we created our very own Traction man comic strip!
We made lots of connections in our MATHS learning this week. We looked at all the different ways we can solve multiplication problems. We used pictures, arrays, repeated addition and our times tables to help us solve each problem.
I am an adaptable learner, settling in to my new class and new school.
I am super at counting in Khmer.
I am an adaptable learner and have had lots of fun in my new class making new friends.
I am so adaptable and have made lots of new friends at iCAN.
This Week in MP1….
January 1st, 2018
Our next Talk Topic is ….Dreams
Why do we have dreams?
Why are dreams so weird?
Why do they get scary?
Many cultures believe what we dream about affects our real life and that we can read our dreams.
What do you think about this?
IPC Learning Journey
his week MP1 started our TECHNOLOGY learning! We began by looking at optical illusions and how our eyes can sometimes play tricks on us. We then designed our own optical illusion spinners. The results were mesmerizing! We have also begun to think and plan our own puppet designs. Did you know there are so many different varieties of puppets; shadow puppets, finger puppets, sock puppets… to mention only a few. We will continue our puppet making next week and hope to put on a sensational show soon.
Year 1
So in LITERACY this week we recapped our learning about plurals and when to use has/have. Later on in the week we did several activities to learn and use adjectives. Adjectives are used to describe nouns and what a great bunch of Year 1’s we have to do so!
At the end of this week we wrote a report about teddy bears from the past and the present. As we have been learning about teddy bears in History, we were absolute experts in this and wrote fabulous reports. Well done, Year 1!
Year one have been working on their counting skills in MATHS; counting in 2s, 5s and 10s. We have also identified odd and even numbers.
Year 2
This week in LITERACY we have been talking about popular heroes and heroes from our own lives. We then created our very own hero and wrote an imaginative character description about them.
In MATHS we have been learning about multiplication. We used beads to make arrays to match different multiplication number sentences. This was good practise as we then had a go at drawing our own arrays in our books. Take a look at a few examples below.
I have been a super enquirer in Literacy, learning how to write notes to gather information about nocturnal animals.
I have been very cooperative this week, reporting my team’s ideas.
I am a a brilliant enquirer because I came up with thoughtful questions to ask during our mystery skype session!
Well done to all of 1S, sharing such amazing learning in their assembly this week.
Learning Block 4…
January 11th, 2018
Our Next Talk Topic is …Rule The World
If you were in charge of the world what would you do?
How would you make it a better place for people?
If you had the choice to be in charge would you? Why/why not?
IPC Learning Journey
IWe have continued to learn as historians this week and have been learning about the very first teddy bear! We discovered lots of new knowledge about old teddy bears by practising one of our key goals. We used our research skills using secondary sources to find out about the past. Through this we learnt some of the features of old and new teddy bears. Did you know that teddy bears looked very different in the past?
Can you spot any differences between these two teddy bears below?
Year 1
In LITERACY we started this week learning about plurals. Lots of plurals end with –s or –es. However, we tend to forget to say and write the s at the end very often. In Year 1 we practised a lot with adding s and es to show that there is more than one.
We also practised when to use has or have. We learned about the 1st, 2nd and 3rd person, which was quite tricky. Luckily, lots of us were able to distinguish between has and have.
Which one is correct?
He have/has a cat.
We has/have a swimming lesson today.
In MATHS we have been working on time. We recapped o’ clock and half past and introduced quarter past and quarter to.
Year 2
This week in LITERACY we started a new book called Traction Man. We looked carefully at the illustrations and tried to predict what the characters in the story are thinking. We then used these ideas as thought bubbles. We have acted out the story and we have identified our favourite and most memorable parts.
In MATHS this week we have been learning to handle data. We sorted numbers on a Venn Diagram and then created a tally chart of our favourite toys which we later turned into block graphs. We have become masters of sorting and handling data!
I bring lots of enthusiasm to all of my learning.
I love singing and dancing in music.
I am a resilient learner. I can persevere even when the learning is tricky!
I’m a principled learner who is always ready to learn, setting a great example to others.
