Learning Journey
This week we have been using iPads and interactive whiteboards to draw different superheroes. We have been discussing the differences between goodies and baddies and looking into how superheroes work together as teams.
Maths
This week we have been using our super powers to add and take away through songs, rhymes and games. The learners have been comparing how much containers can hold and using language related to capacity. We have also been using mathematical opposites such as big or small, tall, short or long and wide or narrow through pictures and games on the interactive whiteboard.

Literacy
In phonics we continued practising our letters and sounds in groups. We have been working hard on our initial sounds and blending three letter words through various games and activities. We have also been busy pretending: writing lists of special powers on sand, shaving foam and glitter.
We also drew and designed our own superheroes and we will share it with class next week.

This week we have been learning all about The Little Red Hen. We have learned to retell the story using actions and our own story maps. We talked about whether the dog, cat and duck should have helped the Little Red Hen to make the bread and decided that they should have all co-operated and worked together emphasising the importance of the 9 personal goals of our school. We also made a 3D Red Hen using paper plates and googly eyes.
Literacy
This week In phonics, Ms Gemma’s group have been revisiting phase two and three sounds. Ms Vijaya’s group have been learning the diagraphs ‘oo’ and ‘ar’. Ms Johanna’s group have been practising blending and segmenting CVC.
Maths
This week in maths we have been recapping number bonds to 10 and doubling numbers to 10. We have also been revising patterns.

Learning Journey
This week we have been continuing to explore superheroes. We have been focusing on Batman and his superpowers. We made super Batman masks and continued working out in our superhero training station learning to crawl, balance and climb.
Literacy
We have been practising our initial sounds through various games and activities. We have also been learning the letter sounds of the Alphabet listening to Mr. Throne .
Maths
We have been practising our counting skills through number rhymes and songs. We had fun learning to write numbers through glitter and shaving foam. We have also been learning to order numbers 1-20 through LINE UP cooperative structure game.

This week we have been learning all about the traditional tale Hansel and Gretel. We enjoyed working together to make the Witch’s gingerbread house.
Maths
In maths we have been learning all about positional language. We worked in pairs, taking it in turns to use positional language to instruct our partner on where to put the ball and the puppet during circle time.
Literacy
We enjoyed making rhyming silly soup and played a rhyming game with dice. We have also been practising our writing skills to making a ‘wanted’ poster for the witch and wrote lovely rewards for it.
We also toasted our bread and spread butter on it when we learned the new sound ‘oa’ and’er’.

This week we have been busy making superhero masks. We used the masks to role play different superhero characters. We also made tall and short buildings with Lego.
Maths
This week in maths we have been looking at shapes around us in our environment. We enjoyed going around school identifying objects and matching them to the 2D shapes we have been learning throughout the year. We also had super fun finding 2D shapes hidden with shaving foam in the tuff spot tray.
Literacy
In our phonics sessions we have been revising rhyming words. We enjoyed playing games on the Interactive white board finding pictures that rhyme and match them all to bake a curious cake.Can you find words that rhyme with cat?

Learning Journey
This week we have been sharing the story The Gingerbread Man. We enjoyed designing and making our own gingerbread men. Luckily ours did not run away from us! We also worked cooperatively in pairs to order and retell the story. We also wrote speech bubbles on what the gingerbread man and the fox said.
Next week we will be sharing the story Hansel and Gretel.
Maths
This week we have been learning all about weight and have been comparing items to see which item is the heaviest and which is the lightest. We used spring scales and weighing scales to test our predictions. We also drew pictures of things which are longer than the scale of 30cm. We also tested the weight of our shoes with blocks and tried to see whether our prediction were true. We are going to make our own gingerbread men, decorate them and eat them before they run away during our celebration time.

Learning journey
This week we have been spinning webs and acting out super powers with one of our favourite superheroes Spiderman!
We enjoyed looking at books and drawing and painting our favourite superheroes. We also had fun acting our superhero characters and building in our superhero station.
In PSED we will continue to demonstrate confidence when talking about our own interests. We will also be talking about how to except needs of others. We will link our personal goals to work on these areas.
Literacy
This week in phonics, we have been recapping Phase 1, Aspect 1-7. We continued practising body sounds and and our letters and sounds in groups. We have been working hard on our initial sounds and blending three letter words through various games and activities.
Maths
In maths we are continuing to develop our colour sorting skills and number recognition. We used pegs, feathers and pom poms to practise our skills.

This week we have been learning all about The Three Billy Goats Gruff. We have been designing and making bridges for the Billy goats to trip trap over to reach the delicious grass. We worked in our teams to make a paper bridge and tested to make sure that is could stand up and was strong enough to hold a toy billy goat.

We have extended our phonics knowledge by writing descriptive sentences about the troll and the Three Billy Goats Gruff.

ENTRY POINT
What a super fantastic week it has been. We began our new topic SUPERHEROES! We were super excited dressing up as our favourite superhero characters. As part of our superhero mission we completed an obstacle course, travelling around, under, over, and through balancing and climbing equipment in the superhero gym.
We have been looking at the names of superheroes and their special powers through books and video clips. We also had fun having our face painted with our favourite superhero characters. We made and add various gadgets using playdough and construction materials.
We were delighted and thankful to have Ms.Fee, Ms. Joaan and Year 5’s joining and getting involved in our Entry point.
Maths
This week in maths we have been learning to compare and order sizes. We have been using the Interactive white board to practise comparison activity to developing the language of comparison using such terms as biggest, smallest, longest, etc….

Learning Journey
It has been a fun filled learning journey exploring OUTER SPACE!
This week ended our topic, Outer Space celebrating our learning by singing space songs, baking alien cup cakes and watching video clips of space and reflecting on what we have been learning. We also enjoyed role-playing as aliens and astronauts.
Next week we will begin our new topic ………
Maths
This week we have been measuring aliens with cubes and comparing different sizes. such as big-small, tall-short and wide-narrow. We used basic shapes to create aliens. We have been practising counting skills through structure games such as line up and mix, pair,share.
Literacy
This week in phonics we will continue tuning into sounds using various games and resources such as ‘Metal Mike’ and ‘Cross the River’. We will also continue segmenting three letter words and listening to the initial sounds in words.

This week we have been learning all about the story of Little Red Riding Hood. We were very resilient when weaving Little Red Riding Hood’s baskets making sure we went over, under, over then under! We made a lovely basket to carry cookies for Grandma. We also enjoyed making bread pizza with grated cheese.
This week we formed our new teams. We worked in these teams to colour our team sign which is a character from a traditional tale.
Maths
This week in mathematics we have been learning to count aloud in 10s all the way to 100. We have also been practising adding 2 numbers. We enjoyed playing the game ‘Roll and Shake’ where we rolled the dice to find out how many pom poms to add to each pot. We then shook the cups together and added different amount of pom poms.

On the 7th April we celebrated our International Day! We enjoyed learning all about different traditional games from around the world. The learners also got an opportunity to try amazing food in our international food court.

This week we continued exploring Space. We extended our knowledge learning about space by looking at non-fiction books and video clips. We have been having fun using our imagination in the role play area acting out as aliens and astronauts in space.
Maths
This week in maths we have been measuring and comparing sizes of things. We have been sorting shapes and learning their names. We began to explore the features of shapes by counting sides and corners. How many corners does a triangle have? How many sides does a square have?
Literacy
This week we have been practising our skills on segmenting and blending three letter words using games on letters and sounds programme. We enjoyed feeding Metal Mike with words. We were also practising to sound out initial sounds in words playing various games using our sandpit area.
We continued practising writing our names on sand and glitter. We made marks with wheels on paint and glitter.

This week for our Entry Point we were visited by Goldilocks and Little Red Riding Hood. We hot seated them and were great enquirers, asking them lots of questions. We even got to taste some of the porridge that Goldilocks had taken from the Three Bears’ cottage and it was just right! Little Red Riding Hood also gave us some of the cookies that she was taking to Grandma’s house.
Math
In maths we have been learning to count in 10s all the way to 100. We have been using a bead bar, a 100 number square and our fingers to support us to count in 10s.
Literacy
We enjoyed lots of cooking this week. We made yummy porridge like the 3 Bears ate and also oatmeal cookies linked to our new sound, ‘oa’.

Learning Journey
This week we have been continuing to explore space through books and role-play area. We have been looking at websites to find out more information on space. We made spaceships and rockets with plastic bottles. We also made a beautiful rocket scene. We enjoyed exploring space in our tuff spot tray looking closely at asteroids, stars and planets through magnifying glasses.
Literacy
In literacy we have been playing initial sound games and rhyming words on Phase 1 and we practised writing our names with different materials.
Maths
This week in Maths we have been practising our counting with rockets, planets, ducks and frogs. We are also learning to form numbers with foam and sand.
Reception
Reception learners were fantastic during their class assembly. They demonstrated lots of Personal Goals. They were great communicators and were able to say many facts relating to the different dinosaurs. They co-operated with each other and were all big risk takers for performing so well at their first class assembly.
Thank you to all the families who joined us for our class assembly and our Exit Point. The children loved sharing their learning from this learning block and a fantastic way to end our Dinosaur topic, exploring the volcano eruption.
Literacy
In Phonics some of the learners are learning ‘ar’ and ‘oo’ sounds and the other two groups are recapping Phase 2 and Phase 3 sounds. Some learners will be learning tricky words ‘not’ and ‘got’.
Maths
We have been learning to add single digits and subtract one single digit. We also continue working with number bonds of 5.

This week we have continued to explore Space. We have been using our knowledge and skills to learn more about space and planets in the solar system. We made alien hats and decorated flying saucers with non-usable CD’s. We have also been looking at non-fiction video clips and books on space.

This week we have been learning all about the diplodocus. We looked at non-fiction books and used the internet to find out lots of information about the diplodocus. We then used this information to write a fact file. We worked cooperatively to make a large diplodocus using different textures.
Maths
We have been learning to compare weights and height using nonstandard units like cups, cylinders and pots. We are learning comparative language using word like heavier, lighter, lightest, taller, shorter and shortest.
Literacy
In Phonics some of the learners are learning ‘igh’ and ‘oa’ sounds and the other learners are recapping Phase 2 and Phase 3 sounds.
We have been practising really hard for our Reception assembly next week. We would love to share our learning with Reception families next Wednesday at 7.45 in the hall and followed with Exit Point on Dinosaurs. Reception parents are welcome to come to the class and go through their learning on the IPC wall, big books and Dinosaur fact files. We hope to see you all

This week we started our new topic ‘OUTER SPACE’. We have been learning and exploring about space and planets in our solar system. We have also been learning a song about planets. We looked at non-fiction books and video clips to find out more information on planets and solar system. We made marbling planets. We have also been role-playing in space, pretending to be astronauts and exploring planets. In our tuff spot tray we have been exploring planets, stars and other spaceships through magnifying glasses.

We enjoyed decorating our own imaginary planets with different toppings.
We had fun making marks on planets with straws and cotton bud dipping on paint!

This week we continued learning and exploring dinosaurs. We had fun making our made up story ‘We Go on a Dinosaur Hunt’ and about the brachiosaurus. We continued extending our story as we went through a time machine and went to a different time zone when the dinosaurs existed. It was fun and scary. Later we looked at non-fiction books and used the internet to find out lots of information about the brachiosaurus. We then used this information to write the fact file.
We worked cooperatively and respectfully to make a large brachiosaurus using different textures. We continued to work on making our different dinosaur skeletons using pasta of different sizes. We have also been practising some songs about the triceratops and stegosaurus. We finally completed working on our dinosaur role play area. Have a look into our classroom. Do not be scared!

In phonics some learners have been introduced to diagraphs ‘ng’ and ‘ai’ and tricky words ‘be’ and ‘was’ .The other learners are working on blending and segmenting sounds and phase two sounds and tricky words

In maths we are finding many ways of making a total of 5. We played many games in class and during ICT.

This week we revised all the jungle animals we have been exploring and learning throughout the past few weeks. The learners enjoyed listening to songs, stories and non-fiction video clips about jungle animals.
Mathematics
This week in maths we have been practising ordering numbers 0-9. We are also learning to add 2 digit numbers through number rhymes and songs. We have also been recognising and matching numbers to quantities through structured cooperative games.
Literacy
This week in phonics we have been learning to tune into sounds using various games and resources such as ‘Metal Mike’ and flash cards. We have also been working hard on listening to different instruments being played.
We have been practising hard on segmenting three letter words and listening to the initial sounds in words.
iCAN PLAY learners had a wonderful time on their splashing Friday, splashing and sploshing in the water!
We enjoyed making moon pancakes! It was really yummy!
During our day openers we drew on the whiteboards pictures of how we feel. Afterwards, we shared it with our friends using the structure mix-pair-share.

This week we have been learning all about the stegosaurus. We looked at non-fiction books and used the internet to find out lots of information about the stegosaurus. We then used this information to write a fact file. We worked cooperatively to make a large stegosaurus using different textures. We have also been practising some songs about the triceratops and stegosaurus. We also worked collectively as a group incorporating all our personal goals in setting up our Dinosaurs role play area in our classroom.
We also drew pictures and wrote sentences to record what makes us happy for celebrating the World Happiness Day on 20th March.
Mathematics
We have been learning to differentiate between 2D and 3D shapes by talking about their properties.
Literacy
In Phonics, we are recapping Phase 2 with two groups and introducing the sounds ‘sh’ and ‘th’ of Phase 3 sounds with the top group. The tricky words for the top group are ‘him’ and ‘his’.

his week we have been continuing to explore and find out information about ‘Jungle animals’. Our focus for this weeks learning was about bears. We watched video clips and read information books on the Bears. We also looked at video clips and acted out the story ‘We’re going on a bear hunt’.
It has been a fun and fantastic learning journey discovering! The learners have thoroughly enjoyed their learning and expanding their knowledge on animals around the world!
We will be entering into another whole new topic ……
SPACE!
We enjoyed making marks on ice with paint and on paint powder with glitter.
Phonics ICT
We played an initial sounds phonic activity that develops the link between letters and the initial sounds of some common objects.

Reception
This week we had our Entry Point on Dinosaurs. The learners became palaeontologists and went digging for dinosaur bones in the sand pit. Everyone was very resilient, adaptable and worked cooperatively to find all of the dinosaur bones. Once we had found all of the dinosaur bones we worked together to assemble the bones to make a huge T-Rex. This week we learned all about Triceratops.
Over the next few weeks we will be learning all about different dinosaurs by looking at non-fiction books and video clips. We will be using this information to write Fact Files.
We added even more fun to our Entry Point when we made a dinosaur paw pizza. We added tomato paste and cheese to it. We enjoyed our pizza margarita! It also helped us when we were learning the letter sounds zz, ch and ee.

BOOK WEEK
This week has been a very busy, fun week for our learners in EYs. We had a wonderful time with Mr Phil the storyteller and had a great time acting out the stories such as Goldilocks and the Three Bears. They also had fun dancing and singing songs with Mr Phil.
iCAN PLAY and Nursery learners visited Reception at our the main site to get involved in more acting-out stories with Mr. Phil. We ended our fun, amazing book week with dressing up as our favourite book characters.
ICAN PLAY/Nursery
We continued exploring jungle animals and enjoyed decorating our classroom door making animal pictures. We have been listening and acting out the story Rumble in the Jungle. We looked at animals in the story and painted our favourite animal character in the story. We also listened stories of Elmer. The learners were great enquirers when looking at non-fiction video clips on jungle animals.
Reception
We ended our topic Plants and life cycles by sharing and acting out the story The Enormous Turnip. The learners enjoyed role playing the characters of the story and retelling the story through making a story map.

What a fantastic learning block it has been! Early Years have been amazing learners: exploring, discovering and gaining new knowledge and practising their skills to understand the topic we have been learning throughout this learning block. The learners showed great resilience and thinking skills to answer the questions throughout their learning journey. The learners were also excellent enquirers asking questions of why things happen and how things work and showing care and concern for living things.
iCAN PLAY and Nursery had so much fun exploring the jungle animals, gaining new knowledge about the animals who lived in the jungle. We will continue extending our knowledge after the holidays.
Reception has been learning and exploring all about plants and life cycles. The learners in Reception extended their knowledge learning about healthy and unhealthy foods and what plants need to grow. They enjoyed planting their own beans. They have been keeping a close eye on them and are keeping a bean diary to see what happens to plants. Reception ended their plants topic with their Exit Point, visiting to Aeon mall to buy fruits to make a healthy fruit salad. They also enjoyed acting out the stories, story telling and making story maps of Jack and the Beanstalk and the Enormous Turnip!

We had our Exit Point on ‘Plants and life cycles’. We went on a field trip to Aeon Mall to buy fruits to make a fruit salad. We worked as a team and took turns to wash and cut the fruits. We later mixed up the fruits and enjoyed eating them. It tasted so good that we had a second helping. We made sure we remembered all our personal goals such as taking turns and being adaptable.

We continued learning about Jungle animals! Our focus for this week was Giraffes. We linked the Story Giraffes Can’t Dance and made 2D jungle animals. The learners have been having fun exploring and finding out information on jungle animals through role-play and non-fiction books.
This week in Literacy we have been making marks on leaves with animal foot prints. In phonics we have been tuning into sounds through various letters and sounds games. We enjoy making silly soup with letter sounds s, a, t, p, i and n. The learners also enjoyed making marks on paint and sand with glitter using different tools.
This week in Maths we have been counting numbers 1-10 using building blocks and measuring jungle animals. The learners made tall and short towers using small Lego. We used cooperative learning structures such as Line Up and Showdown to recognise numbers 1-10.
Reception
Last week we enjoyed planting our own beans. We have been keeping a close eye on them and are keeping a bean diary to see what happens to them. We have learned that plants need water, sunlight and air to grow well. So we made sure we water them daily. We continued learning about the story The Enormous Turnip using the pictures which we coloured in
This week we have been learning about which foods are healthy and unhealthy. We plan to have lots of fun on our trip to Aeon Mall on Tuesday 14th of February where we will buy ingredients from our shopping list. We will prepare to make a healthy fruit salad. We also plan to have our Exit Point on next Tuesday on plants and life cycle.
This week in maths we have been learning to find 1 and 2 more than a given number. We have been learning to write this as a number sum too and have been using our number machine to help us. We have also been learning about money and using money in our role play areas as we are going for shopping to buy fruit in Aeon Mall next week.

Early Years Sports Day!
The Learners in Early Years were absolute sports stars and were brilliant at showing the fantastic skills that they had been learning in PE. The learners also truly showed their resilience and cooperation skills during the events. It was great to see so many families come along to cheer for the teams. Thank you for your support.

We continued learning about Jungle animals! Our focus for this week was elephants. We linked the Story ‘Elmer’ and made 2D and 3D beautiful and colourful elephants. The learners have been having fun exploring jungle animals through role-play and non-fiction books.
In maths we have been learning to recognise numbers 1-10 through structures. We practised writing numbers on sand using our fingers and brushes. We also enjoyed making and drawing patterns on elephants.
In literacy we had fun listening to and looking at a wide range of story books of ‘Elmer’. We looked at fiction and non— fiction books and discovered what an illustrator and an author is and they contribute to the book?

In Reception we continued learning about plants. We enjoyed planting our own beans. We have been keeping a close eye on them and are keeping a bean diary to see what happens to them. We have learned that plants need water, sunlight and air to grow well. So we made sure we water them daily.
This week we have been learning about vegetables and took a turn to talk about our own favourite vegetables during circle time. Later we read the story ‘The Enormous Turnip’ which we acted out with props. We had a discussion about healthy and unhealthy food. We decided to make a healthy sandwich. We enjoyed eating our sandwich together.
This week in maths we have been learning to find 1 and 2 more than a given number. We have been learning to write this as a number sum too and have been using our number machine to help us. We have also been learning about money and using money in our role play area as we are going for shopping to buy food in Aeon Mall next week!

Learning in Early Years!

iCANPLAY/Nursery
We started our learning journey this week by doing big art activities. We showed our cooperation skills by painting boxes and making a 3D giraffe. We also made animal masks to use in our role play area.
Maths
In maths, we enjoyed making different patterns on the snake. We liked using circles and triangles to make patterns.
We had fun matching the animals to their young ones. We enjoyed sorting animals into tall and short sizes.
Literacy
In Literacy, we have been exploring and finding out names of different animals through sharing the story “Rumble in the Jungle” by Giles Andreae. We also continue to practise writing our names using different materials. In phonics we have been practising rhyming words and initial sounds in words.
Reception
This week we have been learning the parts of a plant and what plants need to grow. We also looked at what each part of a plant does. We watched presentations and video clips to help us understand more about the life cycle of a plant. We looked at the plants around the school and took photos of trees and plants using the iPads. We enjoyed labelling the parts of a plant on the IWB game.
Maths
In maths we are learning to count 1- 100 in groups. We enjoyed ordering numbers from 1-20 using a structure game line up. We enjoyed adding and subtracting through number rhymes and songs. We also measured leaves from the trees using coloured cubes.
Literacy
In phonics we have been revising all the sounds we have done so far. We have been practsing our tricky words and high frequency words through ICT games.

Learning in Early Years!

Welcome back for another fun filled ,exciting learning block!
iCANPLAY/Nursery
In Learning Block 4 our theme is all about “ZOO ANIMALS”. We started learning about the different animal actions and sounds. We had fun exploring our new role play area specially the safari jeep . We enjoyed sharing the story book “Dear Zoo” by Rod Campbell.
In Maths this week, the learners have been busy comparing long and short objects. We made long paper chain snakes. We continued to work on our counting skills by counting the zoo animals.
In Literacy, we explored the different animals sounds and continue to practise the rhyming words. We also started identifying and hearing the initial sounds in words.
iCANPLAY/Nursery
ENTRY POINT!
Over the holidays the learners noticed that in Reception a huge beanstalk had grown! The learners were visited by a Giant for our Entry Point who climbed down the magical beanstalk shouting
“Fee Fi Fo Fum I smell the learners in Reception!”
The learners were very excited to meet the Giant and talk to him. The learners were also great enquirers and asked lots of questions such as – ‘How did the beanstalk grow?’, ‘What did Jack take from the Giant?’ and ‘What did the Giant do when Jack took his stuff?’
In Maths we used coloured cubes to measure the beanstalks of different sizes.
In Literacy we have been working hard revisiting the sounds we have learnt so far and practised writing them on the white board.
