iCAN PLAY
Learning Journey
This week we began to compare healthy and unhealthy food. We were able to sort them into different groups. We know what food helps our bodies get big and strong!
We had a wonderful time playing with the Reception learners this week.
Literacy
We enjoyed looking at the non-fiction book, Healthy Snacks. and we continued to practise our mark-making skills by drawing different kind of foods. In Phonics, we have been recapping Phase 1, Aspect 1-3 – body sounds.
Mathematics
In maths we are continuing to develop our colour sorting skills. We have been using pegs, feathers and pom poms to practice our skills.
NURSERY
LEARNING JOURNEY
This week we have been using iPads/interactive whiteboards to draw different mini-beasts. Next week we will also be using modelling clay to make different mini-beasts.
In PSED we will continue to demonstrate confidence when talking about our own interests. We will also be talking about how to except needs of others. We will link our personal goals to work on these areas.

Literacy
In Phonics we continued practising our letters and sounds in groups. We have been working hard on our initial sounds and blending three letter words through various games and activities.
Mathematics
This week have been learning how to add two groups of objects.
We enjoyed listening to the story ‘THE VERY BUSY SPIDER” by Eric Carle!
Reception
In Reception we have been working really hard on our Personal Goals. Every time we demonstrate a personal goal, we put a marble into the pot. We have worked so hard over the year that we have filled some of the pots.
This week, RB and RV filled the Adaptable pot. To celebrate we were all very adaptable and went to iCAN Play in the morning instead of the afternoon. We really enjoyed playing with all of the iCAN Play learners.

Learning Journey
This week the learners have been busy learning about healthy snacks. We had a wonderful time squeezing real oranges to make orange juice and we made art and craft watermelons. We also looked at different kinds of healthy food to put in our lunch box.
In our music session, the learners have had a great time making soft and loud sound using horns. We also painted a guitar to use for our next music lesson.
Mathematics
We continued developing our counting skills by counting corn seeds and using number fans.

This week we went on a hunt in school to spot minibeasts. We have also been looking at closely at bees and their hives. In our creative area we have been making a whole class beehive using papier-mâché. We have also been busy making ladybirds with toilet rolls.
For the next two weeks we will continue learning and exploring minibeasts.
Mathematics
This week we have been learning to form numbers using various resources. We have also been learning to add through number rhymes songs and adding ladybird spots.
Literacy
In our phonics we will continue tuning into sounds using various games and resources such as ‘Metal Mike’ and flash cards.We will practise segmenting three letter words and listening to the initial sounds in words.

This week we have been learning all about the Stegosaurus. We looked at non-fiction books and used the internet to find out lots of information about the stegosaurus. We then used this information to write a fact file. We worked cooperatively to make a large stegosaurus using different textures. We have also been practising some songs about the triceratops and stegosaurus.
Mathematics
We have been learning to halve numbers to 20 and have been recapping doubling

In Phonics we are recapping Phase 2 and Phase 3 sounds.

iCAN PLAY
This week we had a fantastic time learning about FRUITS. We enjoyed singing “Fruit salad” song by The Wiggles. The learners had fun slicing strawberries to add in their milkshake. We also enjoyed making our own amazing fruit salad! The learners helped to slice fruits including bananas, mangoes, apples, grapes and kiwi.

This week we have been busy bees learning all about ladybirds! We made paper plate ladybirds and looked at non-fiction books and video clips on ladybirds.
Mathematics
This week we have been making patterns with shapes and making pictures using the shapes. We also focused on counting the corners and sides of different shapes. We enjoyed going on a shape hunt!
Reception
Learning Journey
In our Entry Point the learners became paleontologists and went digging for dinosaur bones in the sand pit. Everyone was very resilient and worked cooperatively to find all of the dinosaur bones. Once we had found all of the dinosaur bones we assembled them to make a huge T- Rex!
Over the next few weeks we will be learning all about different dinosaurs by looking at non-fiction books and by using the internet. We will be using this information to write Fact Files.
Next week will be the last week for the yellow bags which contains tricky words and sound book.

This week we have been busy exploring and learning the names of vegetables. The learners have had a wonderful time helping to making carrot cake. We also tried to taste some of the vegetables like carrots and cucumbers.

This week we have been learning all about spiders. We looked at video clips and non-fiction books to find out more information and facts on these 8 legged minibeasts. In art and craft we made paper plate spiders and painted different coloured spiders. Next week we will be learning all about ladybirds!

In our phonics we will continue tuning into sounds using various games and resources such as ‘Metal Mike’ and flash cards. We will practise segmenting three letter words and listening to the initial sounds in words. We have also been learning to write our names independently.

Next week we will continue learning to order numbers 1-10 with games and activities. We will also work on counting games using our interactive whiteboard.
Reception
Reception learners were fantastic during their class assembly. They demonstrated lots of Personal Goals. They were great communicators retelling the stories of The Little Red Hen and The Three Little Pigs. They co-operated with each other and were all big risk takers for performing so well at their first class assembly.
Thank you to all the families who joined us for our class assembly and our Exit Point. The children loved sharing their learning from this learning block on Traditional Tales.

This week we have been learning about people who provide us with food. The learners has been looking at the baker and fishermen. The learners have had a great time slicing the bread and pretending to be bakers.
Literacy
We have been practicing our mark making skills by using different tools. The learners have had fun making marks on the balloons. We also talked about the roles of the baker and fisherman.
Mathematics
We continued counting and matching the correct quantity to its number. The learners have had fun using marbles, feathers and tongs to help them with the counting activity.

This week in Nursery we have been learning all about the life cycle of a butterfly. We used non-fiction video clips and books to understand caterpillar changing into a butterfly. We have been also exploring and looking for caterpillars and butterflies in our school garden. We created beautiful butterflies and caterpillars using various resources.
Can you please encourage your child’s interest in butterflies, other insects by taking them on a walk to find these animals in their natural homes.
We have also been sharing in our day openers, expressing how we feel through drawing pictures with our nursery learners.
Next week we will be learning about Spiders!
Mathematics
We have been learning all about shapes. We looked closely at shapes such as circles, squares, rectangles and triangles around us and counted the corners and sides and drew them on the whiteboards.

This week we have been learning all about Princess and Prince Stories such as Cinderella, Rapunzel, Sleeping Beauty, Frog prince and Snow White and the 7 Dwarfs. We enjoyed designing and making castles using junk materials. We later put them in our tuff spot and played with the prince, knights and princess which we brought from home. We also made and decorated crowns and tiaras.
Mathematics
In Maths we have been pracitsing doubling numbers to 10 and number bonds to 10. Next week we will be learning all about halving numbers. We have been learning a song to help us learn doubles to 10.
We have been practising really hard for our assembly next week. We would love to share our learning with you next Wednesday at 7.45 in the hall and followed with Exit Point on fairy tales and traditional tales. Parents are welcome to come to the classes and go through their learning on the IPC wall, big books and traditional tales. We hope to see you all!

We started this week by looking at “People who provide us Food”. We talked about the roles of the fisherman and milkman. The learners had an amazing time taking turns and making banana milk shake.
MATHS
In maths, we have been practising identifying numbers and shapes through playing treasure hunt and structure games. We also continued to look at prepositions ON and UNDER.
LITERACY
In literacy, we have been learning to make different sounds using our body parts. The learners had a wonderful time taking turns to make sounds.

This week we have been looking at different minibeasts and learning about them through websites and video clips. We have been using our magnifying glasses to find minibeasts around the school. We used ipads to take pictures of minibeasts we saw in the school garden.

This week in topic we have been learning all about ‘The Little Red Hen’. We have learned to retell the story using actions and our own story maps. We talked about whether the dog, cat and duck should have helped the Little Red Hen to make the bread and decided that they should have all co-operated and worked together emphasizing the importance of our 8 personal goals of our school. We also made a 3D red hen using paper plate and googly eyes.
MATHS
In maths we have been recapping number bonds to 10 and doubling numbers to 10.
We have been learning the lines and songs for our assembly which is on Wednesday 4th May at 7.45. We hope to see you all!
After the assembly we would like to invite parents/ carers to join their children for our Exit Point where the children can share their learning all about ‘Traditional Tales’.

Learning Journey
This week we ended our learning block 5 topic, Farm animals. The learners have had fun learning and gaining knowledge about the different animals.
During music time the learners have loved singing songs of “BINGO”, “Five Little Ducks” and “Old MacDonald had a Farm”.
The learners have also been busy preparing pizza for our International Day celebration.
Maths
In Maths, we continued learning positional language. This week our focus was ‘ON’ and ‘UNDER’.

In literacy we have been busy practicing our mark making skills using different tools. We had fun looking at the story, “The Farm Yard Jamboree”.

This week we continued designing and creating our own aliens and planets. We looked and listened to different stories and pictures of aliens.
We ended our topic, Outer Space celebrating our learning by singing space songs, watching video clips of space and reflecting on what we have been learning throughout this learning block. We also dressed up as aliens and astronauts.
After the holidays we will be starting our new topic ‘Minibeasts’.
Literacy
In literacy we drew aliens and planets describing them using WOW words. We had fun making marks on glitter and paint using cotton buds.
We had fun working together building rockets, houses and spaceships with legos.

This week we have been learning all about the traditional tale Hansel and Gretel. We enjoyed working together to make the witches gingerbread house.
Maths
In maths we have been learning all about positional language. We worked in pairs, taking it in turns to use positional language to instruct our partner on where to put the ball and a puppet during circle time.
Literacy
We enjoyed making rhyming silly soup and played a rhyming game with dice. We also improved our writing skills for making a ‘wanted’ poster for the witch and wrote lovely rewards for it.

We continued learning about farm animals and pets this week and had an amazing time looking at horses and cats. The learners had fun galloping around like a horse and made their own hobby horses! We have been busy practising our skills in swimming and in tennis.
LITERACY
We had a wonderful time looking at the story, Pete the Cat’s buttons. The learners have been also developing their mark making skills by making marks on the sand using combs.
MATHS
This week we continued counting numbers 1 to 3. The learners have had a fantastic time playing the number hunt and lucky dip number game.

This week we have been designing our own aliens and planets. We looked and listened to different stories and pictures of aliens . We had fun making 3D aliens with toilet rolls.
Next week we will be ending our topic, Outer Space on Thursday celebrating our learning by singing space songs we have learnt throughout this learning block. We will be dressing up as aliens and astronauts. We will also make alien cup cakes and decorate them.
MATHS
This week we have been measuring aliens with cubes and
comparing different sizes. such as big-small, tall-short and wide-narrow. We used basic shapes to create aliens.
We have been practising counting skills through games such as lineup and mix, pair,share.
LITERACY
We will continue practising initial sounds in words through letters and sounds games. We drew aliens and learned how to describe the aliens they drew using WOW words.
Next week we will continue to use these exciting words and will practise writing our names.

This week we have been learning all about The Gingerbread Man.
We enjoyed designing and making our own gingerbread men. Luckily ours did not run away from us! We also worked cooperatively in pairs to order and retell the story. We also wrote speech bubbles on what the gingerbread man and the fox said. Next week we will be learning about Hansel and Gretel.
MATHS
This week we have been learning all about weight and have been comparing items to see which item is the heaviest and which is the lightest.
We used spring scales and weighing scales to test our predictions.
We also drew pictures of things which are longer than the scale of 30cm. We also tested the weight of our shoes with blocks and tried to see whether our prediction were true. We are going to make our own gingerbread men, decorate them and eat them before they run away during our celebration time.

Farms, space and Billy Goats – what a lot of learning!

iCAN PLAY
This week the learners continued exploring life on the farm and had a great time looking at chickens and dogs. We explored the texture of fresh eggs and sang the song, Bingo, which is all about a dog on a farm. We also had a fabulous time making egg roti – yum!
In maths, we have been learning the positional language: Inside & Outside. We had fun putting the dogs inside and outside the house. We also continued to practise our counting skills by counting the chicks reliably up to 6.
This week in Literacy, we practised our mark making skills by decorating boiled eggs. We also enjoyed listening to the story, Handa’s Hen.
Nursery
This week we have been exploring planet Earth. We made a 3-D planet using balloons. We have been looking at globes using magnifying glasses to find out where our friends’ countries are on the globe. We will continue making a whole class globe sticking pictures on it from around the world.
Over the next two weeks we will look at aliens. We will create our own aliens using junk materials
We have also been learning about the solar system and learning the names of the planets.
We have been singing the solar system song and learning the planet names.
This week in maths we have been measuring and comparing sizes of things. We have been sorting shapes and learning their names. We began to explore the features of shapes by counting sides and corners. How many corners does a triangle have? How many sides does a square have?
Next week we will continue comparing sizes of planets and design our own aliens using different shapes.

This week we have been learning all about The Three Billy Goats Gruff. We have been designing and making bridges for the billy goats to trip trap over to reach the delicious grass. We worked in our teams to make a paper bridge and tested to make sure that is could stand up and was strong enough to hold a toy billy goat.
We have extended our phonic skills by writing descriptive sentences about the troll and the three goats We also enjoyed making toast with cheese on it when we learned the letter sound ‘oa’ and ‘ch’ and enjoyed eating them during our celebration time.
This week in maths we have been learning number bonds of 5 and 10. We have been investigating all the different ways to make 5 and 10. We have also been learning to double numbers 1-10.

This week we continued to explore our Farmyard topic. The learners loved to milking the cows and shearing the sheep. We have been busy molding a pig using clay. We like to spend time in our role play area pretending to ride the tractor!
This week in Maths we have been practicing our counting skills by using egg counters. We continued to look at numbers 2 and 4. We also learned the “Five little Ducks “counting song.
In Literacy, we have been practicing our listening skills by playing ‘guess the musical instrument’. We also started looking at body percussion.
Nursery
This week we have continued to explore space. We have been using our knowledge and skills to learn more about space and planets in the solar system. We made rockets with toilet rolls, and planet scenes.
This week in Maths we have been practising ordering numbers 0-9. We are also learning to add 2 digit numbers through number rhymes and songs. We have also been recognising and matching numbers to quantities through structured cooperative games.
This week in phonics have been learning to tune into sounds using various games and resources such as ‘Metal Mike’ and flash cards.
We have also been practising segmenting three letter words and listening to the initial sounds in words.
Reception
This week we have been learning to retell The Three Little Pigs. We drew story maps to help us retell the story. We also wrote speech bubbles about what the Big Bad Wolf and the Little Pigs may say.
In maths we have been recapping all about 2D and 3D shapes. We went on a shape hunt in the sand pit to see what shapes we could find and name. We have also been practising counting and adding 2 sides of a domino.

iCAN PLAY
This week at iCAN Play we had our “COME AND PLAY DAY’ . The learners absolutely loved showing their family what they had been leaning at school. We showed them how to shear a sheep, make marks using hay, how to milk a cow, and we counted eggs! Everyone had a fantastic time exploring the farm animals table. They enjoyed naming and making the noise of the animals.
Nursery
This week we have been continuing to explore space. We worked together and made a large rocket. We have been looking at websites to find out more information on space.
In literacy we have been playing initial sound games on
Phase 1 and practised writing names with different materials on rockets and planets.
This week in Maths we have been practising our counting with rockets and planets. we are also learning to form numbers with foam and sand.

Reception
This week we have been learning all about the story ‘Little Red Riding Hood’. We were very resilient when weaving Little Red Riding Hood’s baskets making sure we went over, under, over then under!. We made a lovely basket to carry cookies for grandma.
This week we formed our new teams. We worked in these teams to colour our team sign which is a character from a traditional tale.
In mathematics we have been learning to count aloud in 10s all the way to 100. We have also been practising adding 2 numbers. We enjoyed playing the game ‘Roll and Shake’ where we rolled the dice to find out how many pom poms to add to each pot. We then shook the cups together and added different amount of pom poms.
In Phonics, Miss Gemma’s group have been learning the digraphs oo and ar.
Miss Becky’s group have been learning the phonemes w and x.
Miss Vijaya’s groups have been practising blending and segmenting CVC words.

Our new topic for this learning block is all about farm animals. We worked together to paint the barn house and a tractor.
In Maths we have been learning about measurements. The older learners looked at long and short objects. The younger learners used the chalk to draw big and small circles.
Nursery
Our topic for this learning block is Outer Space. This week we have been learning about space and rockets. We have also been learning a song about planets. We looked at non-fiction books and video clips to find out more information on planets and rockets. We made 3-D rockets using recycled water bottles. We have been role-playing in space, pretending to be astronauts and exploring planets.
This week we have been learning about comparing sizes. We have been sorting big and small rockets and planets. We have also been practising recognising and matching numbers to quantities through structured cooperative games.

Reception
This learning block we are learning all about ‘Traditional Tales’. For our Entry Point we were visited by Goldilocks and Little Red Riding Hood. We hot seated them and were great enquirers, asking them lots of questions. We even got to taste some of the porridge that Goldilocks had taken from the three bears’ cottage and it was just right! Little Red Riding Hood also gave us some of the cookies that she was taking to Grandma’s house.
RB and RV have also enjoyed lots of cooking this week. We made yummy porridge like the 3 bears ate as well as jelly linked to our new sound, j.
In maths we have been learning to count in 10s all the way to 100. We have been using a bead bar, a 100 number square and our fingers to help us to do this.
In Phonics we have new groups! Miss Gemma’s group have been learning igh and oa. Miss Becky’s group have been learning j and v. Miss Vijaya’s group have been practising blending and segmenting Phase 2 words.

Early Years Creative arts Celebration!
We had a walk to iCAN PLAY. We looked at rubbish that had been dumped on the sides of the streets.
It made us feel very sad and we wanted to improve our community and make Phnom Penh a better place for everyone to live.
We made our creations using recycled materials with our families and learning facilitators – look at how much fun the grown ups are having!
Reception Exit point
We had our Exit Point on ‘Plants and life cycles’. We worked as a team and watered the plants in the garden using watering cans. W made sure we remembered all our personal goals like taking turns and being adaptable and did a great job.

iCAN PLAY
This week at iCAN PLAY, the learners have been busy painting the jeep for our role play area. We also started making recycled paper for Creative Arts Week.
In Literacy, the learners have been so keen making prints on the zebra using marbles and brushes.
In music time, we had fun making loud and soft sound using boom whackers. We love singing “Jungle Boogie”.
Nursery
This week we have been continuing to explore and find out information about ‘under the sea’. Our focused for this week learning was about turtles, octopus and crabs. We watched video clips and read information books on the creatures. We also looked at video clips of beautiful and colourful corals underneath the sea.
We enjoyed making sea turtles and hand print crabs.

Reception
This week in topic we have been learning all about the life cycle of a butterfly. We read the story of The Hungry Caterpillar and each drew a story map to help us retell the story. In the story the hungry caterpillar ate lots and lots of food but he was still hungry! He ate so much food that he had a stomachache and became a big, fat caterpillar. He later span a chrysalis and stayed in it for 14 days. Then he came out he was a beautiful butterfly. We also made a life cycle of the butterfly using different types of pastas and lentils. We have also been learning the song, ‘Tiny Caterpillar’ and ‘The fuzzy caterpillar’
In phonics Miss Becky’s group have been learning the digraphs ‘sh’ and ‘th’. Miss Vijaya’s and Miss Gemma’s groups have been practising blending and segmenting CVC words and revisiting all the Phase 2 sounds learned so far.
In maths we have been learning all about repeating patterns and symmetry. We worked together to make a really long repeating pattern of shapes. We also painted on one half of a butterfly and folded it in half to make our own symmetrical butterfly wings. We used mirrors to see the symmetrical pattern of leaves and butterflies. We also enjoyed playing the symmetrical game on the interactive board. We also planned to paint our butterflies and camouflaged them in our outdoor play area. Can you spot them?

CREATIVE ARTS WEEK IS ON NEXT WEEK 17th, 18th 19th
Early Years will be running workshops for families to work with their children to create with recycled materials on Thursday 18th February from 8.00-9.00am. We hope to see you all.
We will be selling the creations our learners have been making for the past few days using recycled materials. On Friday 19th from 9.00-10.00am at iCAN school main site. Please come and join us! The money collected will be donated to the inclusive arts programme at EPiC Arts.

iCAN PLAY
This week the learners have had fun looking at the jungle animals – snakes and crocodiles! We made a twirling snake using paper plates and decorated our puppet snakes with sequins.
In maths, we have been learning about sizes; “Long and Short”. The learners have been busy making a long and short snakes using playdough and Duplo.
We also started our SPLASHING FRIDAY. The learners had had a great time exploring the pool.
Nursery
This week we have been learning about sea creatures that lives under the sea. We painted a large shark, a starfish, an octopus and a sea horse. The learners enjoyed making shark hats and a large fish pond. We have also been looking at non- fiction books and video clips on the sea creatures.
In maths the learners enjoyed making number puzzles. We have also been measuring sea animals with cubes and paper clips. We have been practising our counting skills with number rhymes, songs and counters.
In our phonics we will continue tuning into sounds using various games andresources such as ‘Metal Mike’ and flash cards. We will also continue to play games to help us learn rhyming words.
Reception
n Maths this week we have been learning to subtract. We have been using our fingers, objects and counting back on a number line to help us. We worked in groups to work out the subtraction number sums and to match the correct numbered train carriages with the trains. (This was quite a tricky challenge but we worked on our latest personal goal and were very resilient until we reach our targets)
In phonics we have been learning to blend and segment words through letters and sounds Phase 2 and Phase 3 games.

Nursery
This week we have started a new topic called ‘Under the Sea’. We are learning about living things that are beneath seas and oceans. This week we have been focusing on sea animals through the ‘Rainbow Fish’ story. Over the coming weeks, we will dive deep down underwater and study ocean life through slideshows, non-fiction books and role play. We are also going to strengthen our knowledge by discovering more sea creatures and plants as well.

In maths we have been making comparisons
between quantities using coloured fish and other objects.
We are already observing amounts and have been trying to
categorise them using mathematical words such as ‘more’ and ‘a lot’.We have also been learning to order numbers 1-10
In literacy we have been learning to say the initial sounds in words.
Reception
Last week we enjoyed planting our own beans. We have been keeping a close eye on them and are keeping a bean diary to see what happens to them. We have learned that plants need water, sunlight and air to grow well. So we made sure we water them daily.
This week we have been learning about which foods are healthy and unhealthy. We had lots of fun on our trip to Aeon Mall where we bought ingredients from the shopping list which we prepared to make a healthy sandwich. We later enjoyed eating our sandwich together during celebration time.
This week In maths we have been learning to find 1 and 2 more than a given number. We have been learning to write this as a number sum too and have been using our number machine to help us. We have also been learning about money and using money in our role play areas as we are going for shopping to buy food in Aeon Mall.

Early Years Sports Day!
The Learners in Early Years were absolute sports stars and excelled in every aspect during their events. It was lovely to see the learners showing the fantastic skills that they had been learning in their PE. It was great to see so many families come along to cheer for the teams. Nursery
This week we have been looking at Summer. We looked closely at the changes in weather patterns and activities people enjoy around the world . We made 3d sandcastles using toilet rolls. We also made sunflowers with paper plates.
This week for Letters & Sounds we have been busy learning to listen to the initial sounds in words. We have also been practising our rhyming words with games.
In Math area our learners have been learning to order numbers 1-10. we have also been practising adding two single digit numbers 1-5.

Entry Point
Over the holidays the children noticed that in Reception B and V a huge beanstalk had grown! The children were visited by a Giant for our Entry Point who climbed down the magical beanstalk shouting ‘Fee Fi Fo Fum I smell the children in Reception!’ The children were great enquirers and asked the giant lots of questions such as – ‘What is your name?’, ‘What do you like to eat?’ and ‘Where do you come from?
Our new topic this Learning Block is ‘Plants and Life Cycles’. Next week we will be learning all about growing and the children will be planting their own seeds and writing their own bean diary about the progress of the plant.

We ended our learning block 3 “Day and Night’ with a PJ party. The learners had a fantastic time making collage stars and moon. The learners have loved making firework art by blowing paint
In mathematics, we have been busy making patterns using peg boards and sorting stars into sizes
Nursery
This week we have been learning about Spring. We looked at various websites and links on the weather changes during Spring. We made collages of raindrops, butterflies and flower bands. We also made rain clouds and made beautiful rainbows with paint.
This week we have been working hard on recognising numbers 1-10. We made spring garden adding right amount of flowers . We also sorted flowers and butterflies into different sizes and colours.

Reception
This week in topic we have been learning all about Christmas. We used our hands and feet to print. We then cut out handprints and footprints and made an animal linked to Christmas. Can you guess what it is?
In maths we have been learning all about money. We have been learning what US dollars and Cambodian Riel look like. We had a fun time pretending to buy items from the class shop with $10.
