End of Learning block 3

What a fantastic learning block it has been! Early Years have been amazing learners: exploring, discovering and gaining new knowledge and practising their skills to understand the topic we have been learning throughout this learning block. The learners showed great resilience and thinking skills to answer the questions throughout their learning journey. The learners were also excellent enquirers asking questions of why things happen and how things work and showing care and concern for living things.

EXIT POINT
Through out the learning block we have been learning and exploring all about SEASONS. We have been exploring the festivals people celebrate during seasons around the world. We celebrated our learning having a Christmas party. We sang Christmas songs, played games and watched Snowman.

RECEPTION

EXIT POINT
For the past few weeks we have been learning and exploring all things about SPACE. We learned about the planets, day and night, rockets and astronauts. We made a human planet Earth, learnt space songs and enjoyed finding out and exploring how astronauts live in space. To celebrate our learning of space we had fun having an alien party.

EARLY YEARS SPLASHING DAY!

Early Years learners had a wonderful time on their splashing day, splashing and sploshing in the water! They also enjoyed eating ice cream.

MATHS DAY!

We celebrated our Maths day at iCAN PLAY. We had so much fun getting engaged in various maths games and activities. It was such a fun filled morning learning to order numbers by throwing balls and bean bags into hoops and buckets. Comparing sizes, fishing for numbers, measuring juice in cups, counting spoons of pop corn and pouring them into cups, making patterns with fruit and so much more…………

Learning Journey
This week we have been learning all about winter. We have been looking at video clips on changes of weather patterns and activities people do during the winter. We had fun making snowman , Christmas cards and snowflakes.

Literacy
This week we have been busy in phonics finding words that begin with the letter sound s,a,t,p,i,n. We played various letter sound games such as I spy with my little eyes and silly soup.

Maths
This week we have been practising forming numbers with various resources. We have been working hard playing games on number recognition using the interactive whiteboard. We also enjoyed measuring snowman with coloured cubes.

RECEPTION

Learning Journey
This week we have been learning about ASTRONAUTS. We looked at non-fiction books and video clips to find out more information and explore there adventures in space. We have also been looking at non-fiction video clips on ASTRONAUTS do in space and how they live in space. In art and craft we have been making movable astronauts with split pins and paper plate astronaut helmets with our photos.

Learning Journey
This week we have been busy learning about Autumn. We looked at video clips and non-fiction books about activities people do in Autumn. We also looked at the weather patterns and leaves changing colours. In our tuff spot tray we had natural leaves and information books and we used a magnifying glass to look closely at the leaf patterns and the colours. In art and craft we made an autumn tree with toilet rolls and had fun making an autumn tree, printing with bottle tops. We also made a autumn wreath with natural leaves.

Literacy
In phonics this week, we continued to explore rhyming words. We have also been practising tuning into different sounds we hear in our environment. We had fun making marks on leaves.

Maths
In maths we have been practising arranging numbers from 1-10 using the Lego blocks and doing the structure game ‘line up‘. We also compared different sizes of leaves and measured them with cubes.

Learning Journey
This week we have been continuing our topic of SPACE by learning about day and night. We enjoyed looking at PowerPoints, songs, stories and pictures of day and night. We have been busy cutting and sticking day and night pictures and we drew what we see at these times. We thought about what our favourite planets are and drew them in our writing journals. We discussed what we can hear during the daytime and the night time and enjoyed listening to the story Night Monkey Day Monkey by Julia Donaldson.

In Literacy we have been looking at letter sounds /f/ and /r/ and have been finding out what objects begin with these letters. We are learning to segment and blend CVC words and have been using magnetic letters and boards to spell three letter words. Geraldine the giraffe has helped us with our letter sounds this week. We are learning tricky words /no/ and /go/ and are using these words verbally in sentences.

We have been practicing using wow words in sentences for Big Talk and we have been trying to read words in our guided reading lessons with the big books. We made rockets for our /r/ letter sound this week too!

Learning Journey
This week we have been looking at summer. We looked closely at the changes in weather patterns and activities people enjoy around the world during summer time. We enjoyed making a summer collage, cutting pictures of summer activities people do around the world. We also enjoyed threading sun patterns and made ice-cream decorating it with shapes. We had fun making sandcastles and sunglasses. We also made sunflowers with paper plates.

Literacy
In phonics we have been playing mix-pair-share using rhyming words. We have also been practising Phase 1 aspect 4- rhythm and rhyme and aspect 5- alliteration through letters and sounds games and activities. We enjoy playing games listening to the initial sounds of our names and objects.

Maths
In maths we have been learning about more and less. We enjoyed playing mucky monsters on the Interactive whiteboard.

ENTRY POINT

This week we started our new topic SPACE . ​For our ENTRY POINT we had so much fun making a human planet Earth with our bodies. We dressed up in green and blue colours and made a cooperative effort to make our planet earth.

Learning Journey
This week our focus was on planets. We have been learning and exploring about planets in our solar system. We have also been learning a song about the eight planets. We looked at non-fiction books and video clips to find out more information on planets and solar system. We have also been exploring our tuff spot trays with planets, stars using magnifying glasses. In art and craft we made a huge planet earth collage tearing blue and green colour paper, marbling planets and we made planet hats. We have been role-playing in space, pretending to be astronauts and exploring planets.

Maths
This week in maths we have been learning the concept about more and fewer. We related this to resources like small world animals and teddies.

Literacy
In phonics we have been learning the sounds ‘b’, and ‘h’. The high frequency words for this week were ‘no’ and ‘go’. We played a lot of interactive phonic games trying to segment and blend the words.

We have been learning one of our Personal Goals-Cooperation. We played lots of games where we have to work as a team and cooperate. We worked hard to pass the hula hoop around the whole circle without letting go of our hands. We also played toss the ball game and made sure every member had a turn before we go to the next round.

ENTRY POINT

For our Entry Point we got dressed up for our favourite season! We had so much fun finding out clothes people wear during each season. We looked at non-fiction video clips and books to extend our knowledge on seasonal clothes and changes of weather around the world. We also made a big 3D seasonal tree. We worked together to decorate the seasonal  tree!

Learning Journey
This week we focused on learning about spring! We looked at various websites and links on the weather changes during spring. We made collages of raindrops, butterflies and a spring tree. We also made rain clouds and made beautiful rainbows.

Literacy
This week for letters and sounds we have been busy learning to listen to the initial sounds in words. We have also been practising our rhyming words with games. We are learning to recognise our names and we have been playing games such as “I spy someones’s name beginning with ‘s’ who can it be”

Maths
This week we have been working hard on recognising numbers 1-10. We counted and added the right amount of raindrops to the umbrella. We also sorted flowers and butterflies into different sizes and colours. We decorated shapes and numbers with different materials.

RECEPTION

Unfortunately our trip to the Royal Palace was cancelled but we plan to go next week Thursday 24th November.

This week we have been continuing our topic of Festivals and Celebrations by learning about Thanksgiving. Reception has enjoyed looking at PowerPoint presentations, songs, stories and pictures of thanksgiving, as well as making paper plate turkeys. We have also thought about what we are thankful for and drew pictures in our writing journals of the things we are most thankful for.

In maths this week, we have been ordering the days of the week with the book by Colin Hawkins,Mr Wolf’s Week. We are also continuing to order numbers 1 to 20, practising patterns and looking at 2D and 3D shapes.

Literacy
In literacy we have been looking at letter sounds /e/ and /u/ and have been finding out what objects begin with these letters and have enjoyed reading and colouring Elmer the Elephant. We are learning to segment and blend CVC words. Geraldine the Giraffe has helped us with our letter sounds this week. We have been writing, discussing and drawing in our writing journals and looking at thanksgiving vocabulary.

We have been practising using wow words in sentences for Big Talk and we have been trying to read words in our guided reading lessons with the big books. We have also been discussing and answering questions about the story to develop our comprehension skills.

We are working on being cooperative for our new personal goal and have been trying our best to work together as well as understand different roles within team work.

Welcome back to LB3!

Learning Journey
In LB3 we will be learning all about ‘The four seasons’. This week we have been looking at changes of weather patterns around the world. We looked at the changes of the trees during each season. We also made 3d seasonal trees. We have been exploring seasons and weather patterns through pictures and non-fiction video clips and books. We have also been enjoying singing songs on seasons. In our ‘Weather Station’ role-play area we have been observing and monitoring the weather in Cambodia. We have also been checking the weather patterns around the world.

Literacy
This week we have been busy finding words that begin with the letter sound ‘s’ and ‘a’. We will also continue practising words that rhyme through letter and sound games.​

Maths
This week we have been continuing to count numbers 1-20 through various number activities. We have also been working hard to order numbers 1-6.​

Next week Tuesday 14th November is Our ENTRY POINT! We will be dressing up for our favourite season! Can you please dress your child with their favourite seasonal clothes!

Learning Journey
This week we have been learning all about Chinese New Year. We talked about the Zodiac animals and found out which animal we are. We also worked together to make a Chinese dragon using chop sticks and paper folding which we intend to use for our dragon dance on Friday.
In ICT we have been decorating the Chinese dragon and learning to type our names on Chinese lanterns.

This week in maths we have been learning ordinal numbers. We related this to the Zodiac animals and where they came in the Great Race. We made animal masks and acted out the race.

Next week on Thursday 16th November we plan to visit the Royal Palace to enhance our learning about our environment and 3D shapes around the Royal Palace. Can you please kindly make sure the learners are wearing comfortable clothes and shoes for the trip.

It has come to an end of another exciting, fun learning block. We ended our topic, Food, by reflecting on what we have been learning throughout this learning block. We celebrated our learning by playing cooperative games and going on a food hunt in the garden.

We continued finding rhyming words in songs and stories. We also had fun making rhyming soup, adding ‘s’ and ‘a’ objects

This week we have been looking at shapes around us and had fun printing with shapes.

This week have been continuing our topic of Festivals and Celebrations with the first half of the week seeing us learn about Halloween where we created scary pumpkin pictures and read ‘MEG and MOG’ books. The second half of the week, we focused on Water Festival and made our own boats, both reception classes joined together at our school pool for a fun boat race.​

Literacy
In Literacy we have been looking at letter sounds /g/ and /o/ and have been finding out what objects begin with these letters as well as learning to segment and blend CVC words. Geraldine the giraffe has helped us with our letter sounds this week.

We are very busy with learning vocabulary related to our topics and are trying to use wow words in our sentences within our big talk sessions. We are having fun with our big books in guided reading, looking, discussing and trying to re-tell the stories. Both reception classes have been working really hard on our Communicators personal goal and are accumulating many beads for being super communicators this learning block!

Learning Journey
This week we have been learning about healthy and unhealthy food. We enjoyed making a healthy carrot cake. We have also been learning how stay healthy through looking at various websites and links. We sorted fruit and vegetables, as well as healthy and unhealthy foods, using 3D food toys and pictures. We enjoyed painting and making watermelons.

Literacy
We have been practising our rhyming words with various letters and sounds games. We enjoyed playing cross the river with rhyming words. We have also begun to listen to initial sound in words. We played various games and activities on listening to and saying the initial sound in words.

Maths
This week we have been making patterns with shapes and making pictures using the shapes. We also focused on counting the corners and sides of different shapes. We enjoyed working in pairs practise our counting skills and to recognising numbers 1-10 with legos.

Reception

Learning Journey
This week we have been learning all about Diwali festival. We made our own divas using clay. We later painted and decorated them with glitter and sequins. We had fun colouring Rangoli patterns during ICT session

We celebrated Diwali on Friday by lighting the diyas and eating samosas and sweets.

Literacy
This week in our phonics session we introduced the new sounds ‘m’ and ‘d’. We also learned tricky words ‘in’ and ‘it’. We were really excited looking for the tricky words in the story on the interactive white board. We had fun highlighting them in different colours to see how frequently we come across them in one page.

Maths
This week in Maths we have been learning the names and properties of 3D shapes and patterns. We made colourful Rangoli patterns using rice and petals and colours to decorate our Rangoli template. We focused on making a sphere with silver foils and adding them to our decorations.

Learning Journey
This week we have been learning about different types of bread. We looked at non-fiction video clips on how bread is made. We listen to the story The Little Red Hen and had fun acting out the story. In arts and crafts we decorated a doughnut and made a large pizza. We also had fun making pizza. It was very yummy!

Maths
This week we have been learning number rhymes such as ‘5 green speckled frogs’, ‘1 elephant and 5 fat sausages’. We had so much fun acting out the rhymes and counting.
We enjoyed listening to the story TEN-IN-THE BED.
We also practised writing numbers (1-5), (1-10) using different materials on the tuff spot tray with chalk and glitter.

Literacy
This week we have been looking at rhyming words through nursery rhymes and stories. We have also been making silly soup and cross the river with rhyming words. We have been practising to recognise and write our names in glitter and flour.

RECEPTION

Learning Journey
Our topic for learning block two is Festivals and Celebrations. This week we have been learning about Bonfire night. We have been making our own bonfire pictures with paint and car wheels and created firework pictures by blowing and flicking paint on paper. We have looked at firework videos, bonfire night vocabulary and the story of Guy Fawkes.

Maths
In maths we have been recapping 2D shapes and have started looking at 3D shapes: cubes, cones, cylinders, spheres and cuboids. We went for a 3D shape hunt around the school too!​

Literacy
This week we have started phase 2 of our ‘Letters and Sounds’ phonics program. We are learning sounds ‘/i/ and /n/ and are looking at objects which have these initial sounds, we have also been making igloos for /i/ and necklaces for /n/.

We had explore time at iCAN play this week and it was so much fun exploring and playing with iCAN PLAY and Nursery learners!

This week our focus was Vegetables. We have been learning the names of the vegetables through non-fiction books and video clips. We investigated some real vegetables, felt and smelt them and discussed what are favourite vegetables are. We enjoyed making a vegetable pie, cutting and chopping vegetables. It was so delicious. In our art and craft we made carrots and used them for vegetable printing.

Literacy
In phonics we have been playing mix-pair-share using rhyming words. We have also been practising Phase 1 aspect 2′ General Sound Discrimination: Instrumental Sounds’ through letters and sounds games and activities​

Maths
This week in maths we sorted vegetables and fruits. We also focused on counting 1-5, 1-20 using various counters and number songs. We have also been learning about more and less. We enjoyed playing mucky monsters on the Interactive whiteboard.

Learning Journey
This week we learned about Eid festival. We discussed how Muslims pray in a mosque. We made a picture of a Mosque against a starry night sky and added stars using gold and silver pencils.

Literacy
In our phonics session we introduce the new sounds ‘p’ and ‘t’ and tried to find many words beginning with these sounds. We enjoyed watching Geraldine the Giraffe who was going around the house to find objects beginning with these sounds. We had great fun writing the sounds in the air using different parts of our body during our phonics session. We enjoyed playing the caterpillar game where we matched the initial sounds to the pictures. We had great fun writing the letter sounds in the gloop, glitter and sand using fingers and brushes during our phonics session.
We also enjoyed making toast with peanut butter as we learned about the letter sound‘t’ and ‘p’. We enjoyed eating the toast, yummy!

Maths
This week in our maths sessions we continued to learn to measure. We enjoyed doing many activities outdoors trying to guess which path is longest whether it was the straight one, curvy one or the wriggly one. It was great fun exploring our guesses!

Our new topic for Learning Block 2 is FOOD. This week we focused on fruits around the world. We enjoyed exploring, drawing ,painting and tasting different types of fruits. We also made 3D fruits. We extended our knowledge about fruits through non-fiction books and video clips. We enjoyed cutting, chopping and mixing to make a delicious yummy fruit salad.

In iCAN PLAY/Nursery we are following the ‘Letters & Sounds’ programme. Throughout the year we will be working on different aspects of Phase 1. This week we have been listening to general sound discrimination –environmental sounds. We have also been looking at words that rhyme and to develop knowledge about rhyme such as rhyming books and playing rhyming soup. We had fun going on a instrument hunt.

Our topic for Learning Block 2 Festivals and Celebrations: This week we have been learning about birthdays. Our Entry Point is to have a birthday party for Kala the Kuala (RV) and Lola the Lamb (RG). We have been busy making party decorations, party hats, party invitations and cards. We have also been super bakers by making lots of party food, we have made cupcakes, krispy cakes and popcorn

Maths
In maths we have been looking at measurements. We are learning lengths and sizes such as long, short, tall, big, little and small.​

This week we have started phase 2 of our ‘Letters and Sounds’ phonics program. We are learning sounds ‘/s/ and /a/ and are looking at objects which have these initial sounds, we have also been playing silly soup to help us with these sounds.

This week we ended our topic All About Me by making gingerbread men for our Exit Point.

We had fun learning All About Me. It has been a great learning journey discovering ​all about ourselves, parts of the body, my family, my five senses and my favourites.

This week we have been counting 1-20 using our loud and quiet voices. We even sang number rhymes. We used basic shapes to create buses and trucks. We have also been using our interactive whiteboard to play counting games and make patterns with shapes.

This week we have been learning about ‘Our classroom and School’. We made a big collage of our school using junk materials. We also drew about our favourite area in classroom. This week in maths we continued learning about patterns using shapes, instruments and body movements like claps etc. We also made patterns using small world animals and colour pegs.

Literacy
During our phonics session we continued to work to tune into sound playing Phase 1 games and song. We started to segment the sounds of a word or picture and tried to identify the initial sound, middle sound and the ending sound.

This week we have been learning about each other’s favourites. During circle time we talked about our favourite fruits, animals and colours. We painted and drew our favourites. We used a structure game mix-pair and share to talk about each other’s favourites.

This week we continued listening to different sounds. We looked inside our noisy box and tried matching the objects listening to the sounds in the box. We have also been working on body percussion. We have been really busy making marks with tooth brushes in paint, and also with chalk and flour.

We have been continuing to explore all seven areas through activities such as threading, mark making, pouring coloured rice, Lego, tracing, painting, small world and much more!

This week we have been focusing on learning about our favourite things and we discussed what our favourite colours, toys, food and places are.

We have also made our favourite colour collage using junk materials and painted our favourite toys. We are still learning to adapt to our new school routine, rules and new learning environments. We had fun sticking junk materials on templates of our faces

Maths
In maths we have been looking at patterns and identifying the properties of 2D shapes. We had fun making different patterns with fruit by making our own fruit kebabs.​

We are recapping phase 1 of ‘Letters and Sounds’ phonics. We have been tuning in and Metal Mike is helping us with segmenting and blending. Bertha the bus is also helping us with initial sounds of animals.​

Learning Journey
This week we have been learning about our families! We looked at books and video clips on families and learnt that families come in different forms. We enjoyed sharing and looking at our family photos with our friends. We painted the Earth and looked at the globe with magnifying glasses to find out which country we come from and where we live.
In arts and crafts, we made faces using natural objects such as sticks and leaves. We also made family frames using different materials. We enjoyed painting and drawing our family portraits.

This week in maths we have been exploring shapes around us. We used a cooperative structure game called mix-pair-share to recognise shapes. We had fun sorting shapes and going on a shape hunt in the sand.

Literacy
In literacy we have been listening to different musical instruments and matching them to the correct instrument. We have also been using an interactive animal sound matching game.

We have been working with our first personal goal: being adaptable, by talking about it during circle time and thinking of ways to be adaptable with our Nursery learners.

Learning Journey
This week we learned about our body and skeleton. We used cotton buds to make a skeleton and enjoyed learning the skeleton dance and songs. We have also been learning about the different parts of a body. We used different materials to dress up our body using wool, googly eyes and junk materials. We continued talking about healthy eating and ways that we can stay healthy. We enjoyed making a fruit salad and enjoyed eating them, it was really yummy.

We continue working with our first personal goal, being adaptable. This week we read a story ‘The polar bear and snow cloud’ and wrote speech bubbles on how we have been adaptable at school and at home.

Maths
This week in maths we have been learning to order numbers from 1-10. We looked through all the basic shapes and their properties. We also used different shapes to make our own imaginative robots.

Literacy
This week in phonics session we continue to work to tune into sound, playing Phase 1 games and songs from ‘Letters and Sounds’ such as Metal Mike, Bertha the bus, cross the river, Old MacDonald had a farm and the silly soup.

Learning in Early Years!

On Wednesday Reception learners visited iCAN PLAY for Explore time to develop their social and learning skills. They had a lovely time enjoying and sharing our lovely iCAN PLAY indoor and outdoor play areas. It was a great opportunity for Reception learners to meet Nursery and iCAN PLAY learners and share their space.

Maths
This week we looked at 2-D shapes. We made prints on large shapes. We also practised counting 1 to 10 using different objects such as buttons and teddies.

iCAN PLAY learners used various counters to practise counting 0-5. They also enjoyed singing number rhymes and songs.

Learning Journey
This week we have been busy learning about ‘My Body’. We sang action songs and looked at non-fiction books to learn and identify the names of our body parts. We also painted and decorated body outlines and faces.

Next week we will focus on our families.

Learning Journey
This week have been continuing to explore all seven learning areas through activities such as playdough, water play, connecting straws, mark making, small world and much more! The topic for the first Learning Block is ALL ABOUT ME:

This week we have been learning about families and we had a wonderful Entry Point where RG & RV joined together to share and discuss photos of our families.

We have also been sharing our weekend news by drawing and communicating what we had done over the weekend. We are adapting to our new school routine, rules and new learning environments. We went for a sound walk around the school with our special big ears to listen to different sounds.

Maths
In maths we have been ordering numbers from 1-10 with body parts and magnetic numbers as well as looking at and identifying the properties of 2D shapes. We also made different pictures using 2D shapes.

Welcome back to a new school year at iCAN!

We are looking forward to a wonderful year in Early Years and having lots of fun filled fantastic learning experiences coming up throughout the year!

iCANPLAY/Nursery

This week we have been singing nursery rhymes and settling our learners. We have also started our LB1 topic All About Me. We discussed our favourite colour, toy, fruit and much more. We are also working on making an All About Me book.
Next week our focus will be on ‘My Body’.

Literacy
In Nursery we follow the ‘Letters & Sounds’ programme. Throughout the year we will be working on different aspects of Phase 1 .

This week we have been listening to general sound discrimination – environmental sounds.
We had fun going on a sound walk listening to sounds around us.

Learning Journey
The last two weeks we have been exploring all the seven areas and the different activities the Reception has to offer and getting ourselves familiarised with the different areas in the school. The topic for the first Learning Block is All About Me

This week we have been learning about ourself and drew a portrait using a mirror. We enjoyed decorating our frame for the portrait with recycled environmental material such as leaves, shells, buttons and glitter.

What a fantastic year it has been for Nursery this Year! It has been an incredible journey sharing space with iCAN PLAY learners. We have shared many wonderful memories together. Well done to all our amazing learners in both year groups, you have been absolutely brilliant in all the curriculum learning areas we have been learning about. You have worked really hard and made fantastic progress! Keep it up, you are all stars! We are so proud of you! Have a great summer holidays!

iCANPLAY/Nursery

Learning Journey
We have come to an end of our supertastic topic Superheroes. It has been fun learning all about superheroes and their super powers. We’re super excited to celebrate and share our learning together with Reception next week on Monday.

Maths
This week we have been practising our counting skills and adding one digit numbers 1-5 through number rhymes and songs.

Literacy
In phonics we continued practising our letters and sounds in groups. We have been working hard on our initial sounds and blending three letter words through various games and activities. We have also been practising our rhyming words through various games and on the IWB games.

Learning Journey
This week we have been learning all about Rapunzel. We have learned how to describe the characters with wow words and chose our favourite character. We discussed and shared our reasons for our chosen characters. We also made crowns with glitter and wrote sentences about Rapunzel. We have shown great thinking and communication skills this week!​

Literacy
This week in phonics, Ms. Gemma’s and Ms. Vijaya’s groups have been recapping phase 3 letter sounds and tricky words. We worked on “ow” and “oi” sounds. Ms. Johanna’s group is learning to blend and have been looking at CVC words from phase ​2.​

Maths
This week in maths we have been looking at numbers 1-20 and ordering them. We are also trying to sing up to 20 very fast!
We had enjoyed using different colours and shapes to create patterns.​
