EYS team would like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
EYS celebrated maths day on Thursday at iCAN PLAY! We enjoyed making shape sandwiches; fruit shake and made delicious cup cakes. We also enjoyed taking part in various maths games and activities. We had a fun day learning about measuring, quantities, numbers and shapes.

This week we have been learning all about Christmas! We looked at different activities and food people do and eat around the world during Christmas time. We enjoyed making 3D Christmas trees and snowmen. We enjoyed singing Christmas carols and watching the movie ‘SNOWMAN’
Literacy
In Literacy we have been recapping all of the Phase 2 sounds, tricky words and high frequency words which we have learned. We also practised writing them on the white boards

Learning Journey
This week we had fun learning all about AUTUMN. We have been busy making hand print autumn trees, decorating autumn wreaths and threading around the leaves. The learners have been keen on doing the leaf rubbing craft.
Maths
In maths we have been practicing arranging numbers from 1-10 using the Lego blocks and doing the structure game ‘line up‘. We also compared different sizes of leaves and measured them with cubes.
Literacy
In Literacy this week, we continued to explore rhyming words. We have also been practicing tuning into different sounds we hear in our environment. We had fun making marks on leaves.

This week we have been learning all about Hanukkah: the Jewish festival of light. We looked at information powerpoint on Hanukkah and how it all began. We also watched on a short story of Hanukkah. We had fun making menorah’s with paper plates and candles with toilet rolls.
Mathematics
In maths we have been learning all about money. We have been learning what US dollars and Cambodian Riel look like. We had a fun time pretending to buy items from the class shop with $10. We also revised 3D shapes.
Literacy
In phonics this week we have been practising blending and segmenting CVC words and revisiting all the Phase 2 sounds learned. We also practised writing cvc words and tricky words on the interactive whiteboard and on shaving foam.
We wrote a list of activities that people do during Hanukkah festival and shared it during our circle time.

This week we have been looking at Summer. We looked closely at the changes in weather patterns and activities people enjoy around the world during summer time. We enjoyed threading sun patterns and made ice-cream decorating it with shapes. We had fun making sandcastles. We also made sunflowers with paper plates.

In math we have been learning about more and less. We enjoyed playing mucky monsters on the Interactive whiteboard.

Welcome back to LB3!

Learning Journey
Our learners were introduced to all the seasons around the world. Spring, summer, autumn and winter. We looked at each season through pictures and video clips and made seasonal patterns.
This week we focused on learning about Spring!
We looked at various websites and links on the weather changes during Spring. We made collages of raindrops, butterflies and a spring tree. We also made rain clouds and made beautiful rainbows with paint.
Math
This week we have been working hard on recognising numbers 1-10. We counted and added the right amount of raindrops to the umbrella. We also sorted flowers and butterflies into different sizes and colours
Literacy
This week for letters and sounds we have been busy learning to listen to the initial sounds in words. We have also been practising our rhyming words with games.

FAMILY LEARNING DAY IN RECEPTION
It was fantastic to share all our learning with our families on Family Learning Day! Our families joined in and learnt the structures: rally robin, inside outside circle and line up.
A big thank you to all our families who joined us in our learning! It was indeed a fun day!

This week we have been learning all about Chinese New Year. We talked about the Zodiac animals and found out which animal we are. We also worked together to make a Chinese dragon using chop sticks and paper folding which we intend to use for our dragon dance on Friday.
In ICT we have been decorating the Chinese dragon and learning to type our names on Chinese lanterns.
Math
This week In maths we have been learning ordinal numbers. We related this to the Zodiac animals and where they came in the Great Race. We made animal masks and acted out the race.
Literacy
In phonics we have learned the sounds b and f/ff. We enjoyed making sandwiches by spreading butter on bread as we were learning letter sound ‘b’.

iCAN PLAY/Nursery News
This week we were busy celebrating our learning through out learning block 2 all about ‘Under the sea’. We had fun dressing up as pirates, mermaids and other characters related to sea theme. We also enjoyed hunting for treasure in the garden and making pirate face pancakes.
What a fantastic learning block 2 it was diving deep down underwater and studying the ocean life through slideshows, non-fiction books and role play! We have also strengthened our knowledge, skills and understanding by discovering more sea creatures, ocean, shipwrecks and plants.
Reception News
Last week on Friday we visited the Royal palace. We had so much fun exploring the royal palace. Here are some of the pictures we took over there.
We enjoyed tasting different 3D shape food during our celebration time last Friday.
This week in topic we have been learning all about the Cambodian Festival, ‘Bon Om Touk’ (Water festival). The learners made their own boats and we had our own boat racing in the swimming pool. We have also been testing which items float and which items sink. We predicted if we thought the item would sink or float and then we had fun testing the items.
We have been learning one of our Personal Goals-Cooperation. We played lots of games where we have to work as a team and cooperate. We worked hard to pass the hula hoop around the whole circle without letting go of our hands. We also played toss the ball game and made sure every member had a turn before we go to the next round.
Math
This week we have been learning about number bonds of 5. We have been making different ways of making bond of 5 using different toppings like peanut butter and jam on our biscuits
Literacy
This week in phonics we have been learning the sounds ‘r’ and ‘h’. We were thinking and trying to assemble a Humpty Dumpty puzzle and colouring it and even made our own rockets while learning the letter sounds ‘h’ and ‘r’. The tricky word for this week is ‘no’ and ‘go’.

This week at iCAN Play we had our “COME AND PLAY DAY’ . The learners absolutely loved showing their family what they had been learning at school. A big thank you to all the families who joined us in our learning! It was indeed a fun day!

This week we have been continuing to explore under the sea. We looked at non-fiction video clips on ship wrecks and sea plants under the sea.
We enjoyed exploring iPAD’s, playing puzzles, colouring pictures and playing phonics games and forming numbers.
Math
This week we have been measuring sea animals with cubes and paper clips. We have also been practising our counting skills with number rhymes and songs. We had fun playing the structure game corners to recognise shapes and their properties
Literacy
This week we have been identifying and naming the instruments being played. We have been working on body percussion.
We continued playing rhyming games on the interactive white board. We have been really busy making marks with tooth brushes in paint, and also with chalk and flour.
Reception learning for this week!
This week in Reception we have been learning all about Halloween! We have been talking about why and how people celebrate Halloween. We had fun playing Halloween games including guessing from the shape of the shadow.
We learned how to make orange by mixing the primary colours, yellow and red. We then used the orange paint-which is the secondary colour to make our own silly faced pumpkins for Halloween

This week in phonics we have been learning the letter sounds ‘e’ and ‘u’ and the high frequency words ‘and ‘ & ‘I’. We are starting to segment and blend words in simple sentences. We love to play phonic games with segmenting and blending simple phrases on the interactive white board.
Maths
This week in maths we have been learning about capacity. We have been comparing different size containers and seeing which container has the biggest capacity and can hold the most water.
We visited the Royal Palace to enhance our learning about our environment and 3D shapes around the Royal Palace.

This week we continued learning about life under the sea. We looked at sea animals living under the sea. We used information books and video clips to find out information about sea animals and their names. We painted and made collages of sea animals.
We enjoyed making butter cake and used cutters to create sea shells.
Next week we will continue to explore more about sea animals. We will also create our own aquarium.

This week we have been making patterns with shapes and making pictures using the shapes. We also focused on counting the corners and sides of different shapes.

This week in phonics we have been busy learning to listen to the initial sounds in words.
We have also been practising our rhyming words by making rhyming soup from letters and sounds.

This week we have been learning all about Diwali festival. We made our own divas using clay. We later painted and decorated them with glitter and sequins. We had fun colouring Rangoli patterns during ICT session and had fun playing the story of Sita and Rama story using different backgrounds and different characters.

This week in our phonics session we introduced the new sounds ‘c’, ’k’ and ‘ck’. We also learned tricky words ‘the’ and ‘to’. We were really excited looking for the tricky words in the story on the interactive white board. We had fun highlighting them in different colours to see how frequently we come across them in one page.
Math
This week in Math we have been learning the names and properties of 3D shapes and patterns. We made colourful Rangoli patterns using rice and petals and colours to decorate our Rangoli template. We focused on making a sphere with silver foils and adding them to our decorations.

This week we continued with ‘Festivals and Celebrations’. We talked about Bonfire Night and why people in England celebrate it. We talked about the gunpowder plot. We played interactive games making fireworks with different colours. It was really exciting and full of fun. We enjoyed it thoroughly. We used cars to mix yellow, red and orange to make a fire and made our own colourful firework display by using the Paint program on the laptops during ICT time. We also used straws to blow liquid red paint to make fire, it was difficult but we really enjoyed it.
Math
In math’s this week we learned about 3D shapes. We have worked in pairs on a treasure hunt for 3D shapes around the school. We took some photos with our ipad.
Literacy
In phonics we have been learning the sounds ‘g’ and ‘o’ and the high frequency words ‘in’ and ‘at’. We enjoyed the activity of finding these high frequency words in our story books and were rewarded with glittering stars. We also made amazing octopuses with 8 wriggling tentacles, when we were learning letter sound ‘o’.

Story of the week

This week we have looked at Sharks through non-fiction books and video clips. We painted a big shark to decorate our role-play area. We also made shark hats. We played cooperative games to talk about under the sea and drew what’s under the sea on the white boards.
Literacy
In our phonics we will continue tuning into sounds using various games and resources such as ‘Metal Mike’ and flash cards. We will also continue to play games to help us learn rhyming words.
Maths
This week in Maths the learners enjoyed making number puzzles. We have also been measuring sea animals with cubes and paper clips. We have been practising our counting skills with number rhymes, songs and counters.

This week we learned about Eid festival. We also discussed how muslems pray in a mosque. We made a picture of a Mosque against a starry night sky and added stars using gold and silver pencils. We continued making and painting Kala’s the koala’s friends like kangaroo, possum platypus. We had great fun playing with Kala during break time and during choosing time in Kala’s house in our class. We made sure Kala is well fed as we brought leaves for Kala from the garden during our snack and lunch break.
Maths
This week in our maths sessions we continued to learn to measure. We enjoyed doing many activities outdoors trying to guess which path is longest whether it was the straight one, curvy one or the wriggly one. It was great fun exploring our guesses!
Literacy
In phonics we introduced the new sounds ‘m’ and ‘d’. We created a monster with googly eyes using our own imagination. We had great fun making mango milk shake by dicing the mangoes and putting them in the blender. It tasted really good and refreshing.

Story of the week
RAINBOW FISH
This week we have been listening to the story ‘Rainbow fish. After listening to the story we talked about sharing and the importance of having friends.
Learning Journey
We started a new topic called ‘Under the Sea’. We are learning about living things that are beneath seas and oceans. We have been focusing on sea animals through the ‘Rainbow Fish’ story. Over the coming weeks, we will dive deep down underwater and study the ocean life through slideshows, non-fiction books and role play! We are also going to strengthen our knowledge by discovering more sea creatures and plants as well.
Mathematics
In maths we have been making comparisons between quantities using coloured fish and other objects. We are already observing amounts and have been trying to categorise them using mathematical words such as ‘more’ and ‘a lot’. We’re also working on measuring sea creatures tall-short, long-short and big-small. We have also been learning to count numbers 0-9 through games and songs.
Literacy
In our phonics we have been revising sitting and listening skills as well as awareness of sounds in the environment.
We listened to songs and shared stories on ‘Pirates’.
Learning Journey
This week we have been busy bees getting ready for our new friend Kala the Koala’s birthday party. We wrote invitations to our teachers and parents. We made chocolate crispies, cupcakes and popcorn. We made bunting with letter sounds and pictures with initial sounds, paper chains and party hats for the class decoration. We had a fantastic time celebrating Kala’s birthday and really enjoyed eating the yummy food and playing musical chairs with our friends and guests.
Literacy
This week in our Phonics session we introduced the new sounds ‘i’ and ‘n’ and tried to find many words beginning with these sounds. We enjoyed drawing pictures which begin with these initial sounds on our small white boards.
Mathematics
This week during our maths session we learned to measure and talk about short and long. We enjoyed doing an activity where we drew pictures of things we found around the classroom shorter and taller than a 30cm scale. It was great fun investigating.
Next week our Talk Topic will be about ‘ZOOS’. We will be sharing stories and songs about Zoo animals and some video clips on Zoos around the world.

Learning Journey
This week we have been learning about each others favourites. During circle time we talked about our favourite fruits, animals and colours.
We had fun learning All About Me. It has been a great learning journey discovering all about ourselves, parts of the body, my family, my five senses and my favourites.
Maths
This week we have been counting 1-10 using our loud and quiet voices we even sang number rhymes. We have also used basic shapes to create buses and trucks. We have been using our interactive whiteboard to play counting games and make patterns with shapes.
At the start of Learning Block 2 we will continue with counting games and number formation. We will also focus on measuring sea creatures.
Literacy
This week we continued listening to different sounds. We looked inside our noisy box and tried matching the objects listening to the sounds in the box. We have also been working on body percussion.
We have been really busy making marks with tooth brushes in paint, and also with chalk and flour
This week we made vanilla cup cakes and enjoyed decorating our own cupcakes!

This week we have been learning about the important places in Siem Reap. We made a model of Angkor Wat using the wooden blocks and built a wall around our wooden model of Angkor Wat.
Literacy
This week in our phonics session we introduced the new letter sounds ‘t’ and ‘p’ and tried to find words beginning with these sounds. We enjoyed playing the caterpillar game where we matched the initial sounds to the pictures. We had great fun writing the letter sounds in the gloop, glitter and sand using fingers and brushes during our Phonics session.
Maths
This week in our maths session we learned how to add one more to a given number and played the structure game rally robin in a circle to tell the next number. We also enjoyed setting up a ‘bus’ and enjoyed counting the children being picked up one by one on the way to the school
This week we enjoyed making toast with peanut butter as we learned about the letter sound ‘t’ and ‘p’. we enjoyed eating the toast, yummy!

Learning Journey
This week we have been learning the sense of taste. The question we asked was… How do we taste food?
We learned that the tongue has taste buds and different parts of your tongue taste different flavours – bitter, sweet, salty and sour. We had so much fun tasting different flavours of food!
Next week we will work on our favourite things. We will also work on making a small booklet about our favourite things.
Literacy
This week we have been listening to different sounds of musical instruments. We have also been playing games on letters and sounds from phase 1.
Next week we will continue tuning into sounds. We will also be making marks on glitter glue, flour and sand.
Mathematics
This week we have been learning number rhymes such as ‘5 green speckled frogs’, ‘1 elephant and 5 fat sausages’. We had a great time acting out the rhymes and counting. We also enjoyed listening to the story TEN-IN-THE BED.
Next week we will focus on sorting objects, counting activities and clocks. We will introduce mathematical language ‘tall’, ‘long’ and ‘short’. We will also work on number formation using various materials.

This week we have been learning about the important places in Phnom Penh. Later we had a structure game of the four important places in Phnom Penh like the river front, Royal Palace, Wat Phnom and the monument area. We drew a picture of our favourite place in Phnom Penh in our writing journal and discussed why it is our favourite.
Literacy
In our Phonics session we introduce the new sounds ‘s’ and ‘a’ and tried to find many words beginning with these sounds. We enjoyed watching ”Geraldine the Giraffe” who was going around the house to find objects beginning with these sounds. We had great fun writing the sounds in the air using different parts of our body during our Phonic session.
Mathematics
This week we have been learning to use interconnecting cubes to make a repeating pattern using the pattern ABAB. Later we had more challenging patterns using (ABCABC) and with the letters (ABCDABCD) colours or objects. We had fun making a fruit kebab in a pattern during our snack break.

Learning Journey
We have been learning all about our five senses. This week we have been very busy learners learning about sight, hearing and touch. We took a listening walk, drew pictures and made shakers. We enjoyed playing musical instruments to make loud and quiet sounds. We also walked around the school looking at things we see and drew pictures.

In Maths we’re learning to count and recognise numbers accurately. We also used the interactive whiteboard to play number games.

We continued learning about our bodies and skeleton. We learned how to use the stethoscope to listen to our heart beat. We came to know that our heart beats faster when we do some jumping. We have also been looking at the model of our body.
This week we have been learning about ‘Our School’. We used the iPads to take pictures of our favourite area in the school and talked about why we liked it.
Mathematics
This week in Maths we learned to order numbers from 1-10 and to find out what is the number when we add one more using different small words, toys and animals.
Literacy
During our phonics session we continued to work to tune into sound playing Phase 1 games and song. We started to segment the sounds of a word or picture and tried to identify the initial sound, middle sound and the ending sound.
We are continuing to work on our first personal goal: being adaptable. This week we read a story ‘The new baby’ and discussed the changes taking place and how we would adapt to the new situation with the arrival of a baby in the family.

This week we have been learning about ‘OUR FAMILIES’ . We looked at the globe with magnifying glasses to find out which country we come from and where we live. We have also been busy painting and drawing our family members.
We have been working with our first personal goal: being adaptable, by talking about it during circle time and thinking of ways to be adaptable with our Nursery learners.
Literacy
In literacy we have been listening to different music instruments and matching them to the correct instrument. We have also been using an interactive animal sound matching game.

This week we learned about our body and skeleton. We used cotton buds to make a skeleton and enjoyed learning the skeleton dance and songs. We have also been learning about the different parts of a body. We used different materials to make a collage of a face. We continued talking about healthy eating and ways that we can stay healthy. We enjoyed making oatmeal cookies and enjoyed eating them, it was really yummy.

In our phonics session we continue to work to tune into sound playing Phase 1 games and songs from ‘Letters and Sounds’ like Metal Mike, Bertha the bus, cross the river, Old MacDonald had a farm and the silly soup.

Early Years Explore Time
On Wednesday Reception learners visited iCAN PLAY for Explore time to develop their social and learning skills. They had a lovely time enjoying and sharing our lovely iCAN PLAY indoor and outdoor play areas. It was a great opportunity for Reception learners to meet Nursery and iCAN PLAY learners and share their space.

This week we have been busy learning about ‘My Body’. We sang action songs and looked at non-fiction books to learn and identify the names of our body parts.
We also painted and decorated body outlines and faces.
Next week we will focus on our families.
Mathematics
This week we looked at 2-D shapes. We made prints on large shapes. We also practised counting 1 to 10 using different objects such as buttons and teddies.
iCAN PLAY learners used various counters to practise counting 0-5. They also enjoyed singing number rhymes and songs.

Our topic for this Learning Block is ‘All about me’. In our entry point we discussed and shared our family photo with our friends during carpet time and had a structure game of mix pair share-sharing about our family with our friends . We also drew our portrait by looking at the mirror and sketching it out and talking about it.
We enjoyed decorating our frame for the portrait with recycled environmental material such as leaves shells and glitter.
We have been talking about healthy eating and ways that we can stay healthy. We enjoyed talking about our favourite food and discussed whether it was healthy. We decided to make fruit salad with our favourite fruits and enjoyed taking turns and working in teams to clean and cut up the fruits.
In our phonics session we continue working on tuning into sounds, playing Phase 1 games and songs from ‘Letters and Sounds’ phonics programme such as Metal Mike, Bertha the bus, Old MacDonald had a farm and the silly soup.
In our numeracy session we learned to order numbers from 1-10,and also looked through all the basic shapes and their properties.

This week we have been singing Nursery Rhymes and settling our learners. We have also started our LB1 topic ‘All About Me’. We discussed our favourite colour, toy, fruit and much more. We are also working on making an ‘All about Me’ book.
Next week our focus will be on ‘My Body’.
Literacy
In Nursery we follow the ‘Letters & Sounds’ programme. Throughout the year we will be working on different aspects of Phase 1.
This week we have been listening to general sound discrimination – environmental sounds.We had fun going on a sound walk listening to sounds around us.

Reception
The last two weeks we have been exploring all the seven areas and the different activities the Reception has to offer and getting ourselves familiarised with the different areas in the school. The topic for the first Learning Block is ‘All about me’.
Next week we will be learning about all the different parts of our body and drawing a portrait using a mirror. In maths we will be ordering numbers from 1-10 using different objects.
We also have being working with our first personal goal: being adaptable, by talking about it during circle time and reading many books and writing speech bubbles on how we have been adaptable.

Next week In our phonic session we will be going for a sound walk around the school to tune in to different sounds they can hear around the school.

iCAN PLAY
It has been an incredible journey, the learners at iCAN PLAY have worked so hard and had made so much great progress this year. We have shared many wonderful memories of amazing learning through play.
Nursery
What a fantastic year it has been in Nursery! Well done to all our amazing learners, you have been absolutely brilliant in all the curriculum learning areas we have been learning about. You have worked really hard and made fantastic progress! Keep it up, you are all stars! We are so proud of you! Have a great summer holidays!

Reception
It has been a pleasure to see the learners grow in confidence and has become great independent learners. We wish them all the luck and best wishes in the next academic year. Keep up your iCAN learning spirit going! Happy holidays and best wishes from the Reception team.
Exit point
We had our Exit Point on ‘Dinosaurs’. Children from RB and RV shared our fact file with a structure game mix pair and share. We made sure we remembered all our personal goals like taking turns and being adaptable and did a great job of sharing the facts with each other. We then sang the dinosaur songs and danced to the dinosaur chomp. Finally we watched a video on the different dinosaurs.

EYS/MP1 Family Event
Thank you to all the families who joined us for our family event.
Friday 10th June: last day of school!
School finishes for iCAN PLAY at 10.45am and Nursery at 10.30am. Reception will finish at 11.30am.
iCAN PLAY
This week the learners have been busy looking at our topic about FOOD. We had a fantastic time making ham and cheese sandwiches. We also enjoyed squeezing lemons and tasting the juice! So sour!
In Literacy we had fun making marks on our LSAs’ faces using face paint. We also continued talking about healthy and unhealthy food.
In Maths, we had fun cutting out and naming different shapes using watermelons. The learners have also been busy revising the positional language, full and empty. They have been experimenting with water bottles filling and emptying the water through a funnel.
Nursery News
This week in maths we have been looking at Shapes around us in our environment. We enjoyed going around school identifying objects and matching them to the 2D shapes we have been learning throughout the year.
Next week we will listen to and work on our favourite traditional tales. Such as ‘Goldilocks and the three Bears’, ‘The three Little Pigs’ and ‘Little Red Riding Hood’
Reception
This week we have learned all about the Brontosaurus and Brachiosaurus. We looked at non-fiction books and on the internet to find out lots of information about these amazing creatures. We then used this information to write a fact file. We worked cooperatively to make a large brontosaurus and Brachiosaurus using different textures.
We also practised some songs about the dinosaur hunters, Triceratops and Stegosaurus. It was great fun and exciting when both the reception classes went outside on the tennis court and measured out the actual size of dinosaurs.
In maths we have been learning to count in twos and have been recapping doubling and number bonds.
n Phonics we are recapping Phase 2 and Phase 3 sounds.
