Next weeks talk topic is….Natural Disasters

Have you heard about any natural disasters in the news recently?

IPC Learning Journey

This week we have been learning all about living things. We started by sorting a variety of objects into different groups; alive, once alive, never alive. We also looked at different life cycles e.g. insects, animals and plants. To help understand how plants grow we set up our own investigation for growing our own plant. We will keep observing how the plant grows and will record our findings using photographs and diagrams.

Year 1

In LITERACY we started a non-fiction unit. We looked at the features of non-fiction books, for example non-fiction books have a contents page and headings and a glossary. We learnt all these new words, because we will be making our own non-fiction books next week! But first we need to do some investigations!

In MATHS we have been learning addition. We have been learning our number bonds to 10 and 20. We have also been doing number line work concentrating on bouncing along the number line to arrive at the correct answer.

Year 2

In LITERACY we have begun reading a new text this week called Lila and the Secret of Rain. We have talked about the importance of rain and the consequences in countries where it doesn’t rain enough. We have predicted and used adjectives to write what we think is going to happen in the story.

In MATHS we have been drawing and measuring the length of different shapes, lines and objects using mm, cm and m. It was quite tricky at first but we were very resilient and started to get the hang of it. We even did some estimating and tried to choose the appropriate equipment to help us in our measurements e.g. ruler, metre stick or tape measure. We had to remember to start at 0 and look very carefully at the units of measure.

I try really hard to take care of my presentation when writing in Literacy.

I am a great enquirer and love reading non-fiction books in the library.

I am a measuring magician and have been using a ruler very carefully to measure lots of things in Maths this week.

I have been resilient and keep trying my best!

In MP1 This week….

Sep tember 11th, 2017

Our next talk topic is ….healthy food

What’s wrong with eating lots of sugar?

Why do I need to eat fruits and vegetables?

IPC Learning Journey

In MP1 we continued our learning about monarch butterflies. We learnt all about the butterfly life cycle and made our own examples. We also learnt about the how monarch butterflies have adapted to survive. They are very resilient!

In Society we learnt all about Pchum Ben and why we celebrate it here in Cambodia. We practised different customs and traditions, including: folding the petals of a lotus flower, making a traditional dish Num Ansom Chek with sticky rice and banana (yummy!) and taking turns following the traditions and rituals in a pagoda.

Thank you to everyone who came along and joined in the fun at Monkey Business this week. It was great seeing you all there and we hope you had as much fun as the children.

Year 1

In LITERACY we continued our learning about The Hungry Caterpillar. As we are writing our own stories this week, we thought about how we could use adjectives to describe the delicious fruit the hungry caterpillar eats! To help us with this learning task we got to eat lots of tasty foods and then used our senses to describe the sensations we were tasting and smelling! This activity really helped us to understand that an adjective is a describing word. Maybe you can describe the dinner you are eating tonight? Is it delicious, sweet, sour or crunchy or something else?

In MATHS we designed a variety of symmetrical patterns for butterflies using different colours, paint and fabric. We also showed our understanding by creating our own symmetrical pattern using lego. Symmetrical patterns are everywhere! Can you spot some anywhere?

Year 2

In LITERACY we wrote our own version of the story Oliver’s Vegetables. We created our own character who hated trying new things and NEVER ate their fruit. Throughout the story our characters became more adaptable and took some big risks, trying lots of new fruit. We made our writing interesting by using lots of adventurous and specific vocabulary e.g. exotic, succulent, zesty. Some of us even included speech marks in our writing. I wonder what you will be eating for dinner. Could it be …pineapple pizza, mango mash or maybe banana pancakes?

In MATHS we have been carrying on with halving but looking at halving shapes rather than numbers. We have been practising using and writing fractions 1/2, 1/4 and 3/4. To investigate fractions further we tried to find as many different ways as we could to make these fractions within shapes.

I am a great think and thought of some super wow words to use in Literacy.

I have been really resilient trying to read lots of new words.

I am an enquirer because I continued my learning at home doing some super scientific research.

I love learning and always try my best!

In MP1 this week….

Our next Talk Topic is ……Pchum Ben.

IPC Learning Journey

We have been busy bees learning all about the world and it’s continents this week in GEOGRAPHY. To find out more we used different sources to learn about each continent and different countries within. We also looked at how the monarch butterfly migrates from Canada to Mexico during the winter months to hibernate.
Listen to the song below to find out more.

Year 1

In LITERACY we have had lots of fun reading The Very Hungry Caterpillar. After reading the story we talked a lot about the story; about the food the caterpillar eats and how he changes into a butterfly. We also had a go in drawing the setting, as this is where the story takes place. Next week we will continue learning about The Very Hungry Caterpillar and start to use adjectives! Do you want to listen to the story at home?

In MATHS we have been working on measure. We had to organise different sized caterpillars according to length and measure the exact length using a ruler. We also collected different objects in class and measured the length in cm.

Year 2

In LITERACY we have continued our learning based on the story Oliver’s Vegetables. We used persuasive language to try and get Oliver to eat more vegetables. Then we started to think about our own version of the story. We thought about our character’s personality and their likes and dislikes. We had to be risk takers again and this time tried different fruits that our character may like …or not! We used our senses to describe the fruit using specific adjectives. Next week we are excited to write our own version of the story.

In MATHS this week we have been speaking, drawing and writing our own subtraction words problems. We have also been looking at doubling and halving numbers, we even played a fun board game that has helped us practise these skills.

I have been awarded Star of the Week for being  very respectful and adaptable with my friends while taking turns in the role-play area.

I have been a risk taker and tried using new vocabulary in literacy.

I showed lots of resilience when measuring using a ruler very carefully.

I did a really good job sequencing the story of The Very Hungry Caterpillar.

Our next Talk Topic is….iCAN School.

IPC Learning Journey

We started our new unit Flowers and Insects with an ‘Ugly Bug Ball’ Entry Point. We made our bug costumes and had lots of fun exploring the school garden for insects and other creepy crawlies! We made bug biscuits and danced to the coolest bug bands. We even got to make our very own super bug!!!

If you would like to make your own super bug at home click on the link below:
https://www.mylearning.org!
We can’t wait to learn more about flowers and insects when we start our first subject in this unit next week.

Year 1

In LITERACY we we have been learning all about rhyme: words that sound the same. Here is a link to a game which you can try at home! http://www.bbc.co.uk/schools/ks1bitesize/literacy/rhyme/maincontainer_001.swf We read lots of poems and stories which include rhyme. It was great fun learning the different sounds and rhymes. We have done lots of games to identify and find rhyming words. We even made up our own version of Humpty Dumpty using rhyming words!

In MATHS we have been looking at numbers above 20 and working out one more and one less. We were really resilient and tried our best

Year 2

In LITERACY we have been retelling the story of Oliver’s Vegetables. Oliver was very resilient and never gave up trying to find the potatoes in Grandpa’s garden. He was also a good risk taker because he tried lots of new vegetables. We got to be risk takers just like Oliver and tried some of Grandpa’s vegetables ….they were DELICIOUS! We used our senses to describe the different flavours, textures and smells with as much detail as possible.

In MATHS we have been busy finding different ways to make numbers. There are just so many we couldn’t stop! We also showed our thinking skills when we played ‘Strike It Out’ which was lots of fun!

To recap the rules and play at home follow the clip below.

I am a good thinker in Maths and can solve tricky number problems.

I have been a resilient learner in Maths and have choosing resources to help me solve number problems.

I show a lot of adaptability and always try my best and have a go!

I have been a great thinker in Maths counting in 1s.

IPC Learning Journey

MP1 received a puzzling message from Professor Spark at the start of the week. We had to use our brains to work out what to do with all the equipment she had left lying around school. Luckily, MP1 is full of good thinkers! We practised lots of different skills and though it was tricky at first we soon noticed the more we practised the more we were improving. We created our own obstacle course and tested them out on each other. We used all the knowledge we had learnt about instructions in Literacy to help our friends complete the course. Professor Spark would be proud!

Year 1

In MATHS we have been learning all about numbers. We have been practising counting different amounts and putting numbers in the correct place on a number line. We also practised to find one more and one less on a number line. We had lots of fun and really challenge ourselves. We’ll work more on numbers next week!

In LITERACY we have been practising our communication skills whilst learning all about instructions. We learned some new verbs and we discovered that instructions use a lot of bossy language. It is also very important to sequence the instructions correctly using time connectives like First, Next, Then, Finally. At the end of the week we had a go in writing our own instructions for our obstacle courses!

Year 2

In MATHS we have been busy partitioning numbers into tens and ones. This can help us when adding larger numbers together. We also practised finding 10 more or 10 less than a given number. 100 squares came in very handy when the numbers got a bit tricky but we were resilient and kept trying.

In LITERACY we have been learning all about instructions. Did you know instructions help us to do lots of things like playing games, cooking and fixing things. Sequencing instructions is very important if you want to get things right! We practised sequencing instructions to help us play snap. Adding time connectives helps keep things in the right order. You have to be bossy too. We tried being bossy by teaching our partner to draw a monkey. They had to listen really carefully and we had to include lots of detail to help. All this really helped us when we made our own board games with animal spinners. Some of us even created our own rules.

I have been a great thinker in Literacy following and retelling instructions.

I am a super role model and try my absolute best at everything!

I have been a good thinker writing some fantastic words this week.

I am a good enquirer and ask lots of questions.

IPC Learning Journey

IMP1 put on our goggles and lab coats and switched on our brain boxes as we entered Professor Spark’s laboratory for our very first unit Brainwave.

In Year 1 we had great fun dressing up as scientists and got very messy dissecting jelly brains to find the neurons within. Our goggles and lab coats came in very handy when we were mixing different coloured potions together to create new and wonderful concoctions. We really felt like scientists as we started our investigations into the brain.

Year 2 took a closer look at the different parts of the brain, piecing them together bit by bit; just like a jigsaw puzzle. Yes that’s right, our brains are made up of different parts, each with their own name and important jobs to do. We then created our own cauliflower brains by painting each part a different colour to represent each special part of the brain. It was brain-tastic!

We really enjoyed our entry point! It was a great introduction into our Unit all about the brain and how we learn. Now to put those neurons to the test as we continue our learning ….We can’t wait to hear more from Professor Spark and to find out what is install for us next.

I have been a great communicator sharing my knowledge about the brain.

I like taking risks and try my best, even when it’s tricky.

I was a risk taker and tried working with bigger numbers.

I have been very adaptable joining iCan. It’s lots of fun!

Schools out for Summer…

Our Next Talk Topic is…HOLIDAYS!

IPC Learning Journey

We have come to the end of our From A to B unit! It has been a fantastic unit filled with so much fun and we have learned lots of new knowledge, skills and understanding! To celebrate the end of a fabulous unit we took a trip to Kids City where we whizzed round the track in our go karts! It turns out some of us are pretty good drivers too. In the jungle playground we explored all the different ways we could travel just by using our bodies: crawling through tiny holes, rolling, skipping, running, climbing, sliding, swinging etc. What a brilliant way to finish!

Year 1

In LITERACY this week we completed our information books! We wrote our information very carefully and tried to think of some questions to include. What is your favourite mode of transport?

In MATHS we looked at symmetrical patterns. We used a range of materials to make our own symmetrical patterns out of lego, lolly sticks, drawings etc. We were great enquirers and really enjoyed using mirrors to find even more symmetry.

Year 2

In LITERACY we have been so enthusiastic about telling and writing stories, that we asked if we could make books. We made up our own stories and thought about interesting words and phrases to use in our booklets. Some of us have made an information booklet for our new teacher next year. Great effort!

In MATHS we practised our comprehension skills by solving more word problems. We are getting really good at it.

I have been awarded Star of the Week for being  very respectful and adaptable with my friends while taking turns in the role-play area.

I made a fantastic book about transport this week.

I show lots of resilience when writing my book about The Elves and The Shoemaker.

I worked really hard telling the time to the quarter hour.
