IPC Learning Journey

In International Mindedness we have been learning to respect one another’s individuality and independence. We found it very interesting to find out how children travel to school in different countries. How do you travel to school?

We had so much fun at EY’s and MP1’s family event last weekend! Take a peek at what we got up to below…..

Splish, Splash, Splosh!

MP1 also had our swim meet this week. It was amazing to see so many risk takers challenge and push themselves in the water. Everyone showed great resilience as they swam full speed across the pool! Some even had to work together showing super cooperation and team work.
Cheers and chanting could be heard from across the school as everyone wanted to support their friends! Well done everyone!!

Year 1

In LITERACY we made our very own information books all about transport. We designed a front cover and wrote our blurbs. We even included a glossary where we highlighted all the key words we’ve learnt over the unit.

In MATHS we have been enquirers, doing some class research all about transport. We wanted to find out how year 1 travel to school. First we used our knowledge on taliy marks to make a tally chart. We then used this data to make a pictogram and block graph. Finally to show our understanding we analysed the data to answer questions. The most popular mode of transport was by car. The least popular was walking.

Year 2

In LITERACY we continued with The Elves and the Shoemaker. We made vocabulary lists with (new) words of the story. We also changed the feelings and actions of the elves and the shoemaker. We did an amazing job cooperating with our partners to make incredible lists. Some of us had to finish our story maps and others enjoyed inventing new parts for the story.

In MATHS we’ve been practising our addition and subtractions, consolidating our previous knowledge. Some learners have also been solving word problems involving addition and subtraction

I am a super enquirer and have found out lots of fascinating facts about transport!

I was a kind friend during RAK week.

I thought of lots of different ways to show kindness for RAK week.

I have been doing my best by being kind and helpful to my peers.

We have been learning all about road safety in SOCIETY this week. We talked about how we could keep ourselves safe when travelling and created posters to warn others.

How could you stay safe when travelling in a car?

What should you always do before crossing a road?

What do you need to wear when using roller skates?

Year 1

In LITERACY we have continued learning about information texts and researched some fascinating facts about transport. We looked at questions and tried writing some of our own in our planning on transport.

In MATHS we have been learning about capacity; more, less and equal. We estimated (had a sensible guess) how many times it would take to fill a big tub using different containers e.g. cup, jug, bottle etc. We all got a bit soggy but had great fun with our learning. Some of our estimates were pretty close too!

Year 2

In LITERACY we continued our story on The Elves and The Shoemaker. We made story maps to help us plan and sequence the events in the story. These story maps will help us as we begin to write the story.

In MATHS we have been revising to consolidate some of the learning done previously. So we’ve been practising to see if we can still remember how to tell the time; hour, half-hour, quarter past and quarter to. We’ve also been practising how to add a single digit to a two digit number and some learners challenged themselves by adding two digit numbers.

I made some great maps in geography and even added my own very detailed key.

I have been thinking of some great definitions and tried really hard to write them carefully in my glossary.

I put a lot of effort into my road safety poster for our society lesson.

I showed care and cooperation when I helped a new buddy join the class.

IPC Learning Journey

We continued looking at our local environment this week in geography. In our classes we took a short walk to iCAN Play and round to Aeon Mall before heading back to school. On our journey we tried to spot different landmarks e.g. dentist, hairdressers, bank etc. As we went by we noted each landmark on our maps. Once back at school we then designed our our key with symbols to represent each of the sites on our map

Year 1

In LITERACY we have been learning about non fiction text. We recapped the features of information text and practised making our own glossary; remembering alphabetical order and definitions. We have got much better with practice.

In MATHS we have continued our learning on sharing and division. We are getting really good at sharing objects into groups of 2, 3, 4, and 5. We discovered some objects can be shared equally whilst others can not. These are called remainders.

Year 2

In LITERACY we listened to Mr Phil tell the story of The Elves and The Shoemaker. We then retold the story using expression and actions.

In MATHS we listed different kinds of transportation used to travel to school. We then used the information to make tally charts and represented it as pictograms and block graphs. Next, we used the created pictograms and block graphs to answer questions. It was interesting to find out how our friends travelled to school and generally it was by car!

I am a respectful learner and sit smartly on the mat ready to listen and learn.

I am a helpful friend in Maths.

I showed adaptability this week and helped a new buddy when visiting our class.

I am a resilient learner and never give up!

IPC Learning Journey

We continued our geography learning this week making our own maps of the school. First we had to identify and plot the different rooms on our empty plan. We then added symbols and wrote them on our key. This helps us to know what the different symbols mean. Some of us had a go at drawing our route to school using a big map of Phnom Penh. Some of us live close to school whilst others live a lot further away.

Learning Reflection

We have all been great communicators in MP1 this week! Sharing our learning with our parents during our child led conferences was lots of fun. We are all very proud of how much we have learnt and grown and can’t believe just how much learning we have squeezed in to just one year! Thank you for letting us share our learning with you.

I was a good communicator sharing all my learning this week!

I was resilient when practising division in Maths.

I was resilient when reading the time on an analogue clock.

I’m a star for doing a fantastic job in sharing my learning this week.

IPC Learning Journey

What an exciting start to our GEOGRAPHY learning, as we took a tuk tuk trip around Phnom Penh. We followed the route on our maps carefully and spotted lots of landmarks along the way. We got dizzy driving round central market and stopped to take pictures of the trains at the station. We saw lots of boats down by the river and were wowed by the royal palace. It was lots of fun riding in the tuk tuks and we saw lots of other transport zoom by. Take a look at our journey below.

Year 1

In LITERACY we have been writing our spooky descriptions. To help make our writing interesting we practised turning simple sentences into MONSTER sentences by using different connectives like and, or, but, so. We used our senses to describe the setting and included lots of wow words.

In MATHS we practised sharing objects into different groups. We discovered even numbers can be shared equally but odd numbers can not. We even practised writing division number sentences to show this. Super learning!

Year 2

In LITERACY we have been working hard on finishing their poems. We thought about all the poetic devices we have learnt over the past few weeks and wrote our poems about transport. We also practised to perform poems by using a clear voice and even some actions and gestures. Fantastic work!

Here is one of our poems:
Super Duper Mega Transport

A big boat rides the waves.
DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOFFFFFFFF

Splish, splash, splosh
Watch out for the fish!

SIt’s the ginormous rusty Titanic
Oh no, it will sink!

Let’s take the train under the sea
Choo choo choo

Chuff chuff chuff
Into the tunnel

Out the other side
A comfortable ride

Next the plane
It makes loops in the sky
Like a rollercoaster
Up high

Poem written by: Chet, Ravuth, Luke and Sommanita

In MATHS we’ve been recapping the fact that a clock can be divided into 4; o’clock, quarter past, half past and quarter to. We have been practising to tell the time by using analogue clocks and positioning hands to show quarter past, quarter to and half past.

I am a responsible classroom monitor and always show respect by tidying up my classroom.

I really enjoyed making my raft in technology and showed great teamwork.

I was very cooperative in technology helping my team build and test our raft

2N were all super communicators this week when performing their class assembly! Great job!

IPC Learning Journey

For our TECHNOLOGY learning we took on the challenge of building RAFTS.
We learnt that a raft is a simple boat that can float and transport people and things.
Then we worked in teams to identify materials that would be suitable to make our own rafts. We found it tricky to put all of the materials together at first but worked together and helped each other!
When our rafts were built, we tested them in the pool to see if they worked. Finally, we evaluated our work thinking about what went well and what we would change to make our rafts better next time.
What amazing fun and great learning!

Year 1

In LITERACY we have been telling spooky stories. We used our senses to think of spooky wow words and created our own images of different scary settings.
Next week we will continue our learning, writing our very own spooky descriptions.

In MATHS we continued our learning on multiplication. We used arrays to help us solve tricky times tables problems. We got really good at it too!

Year 2

In LITERACY we worked on other poetic devices, such as onomatopoeia, alliteration and similes. We loved to be busy with alliterations and came up with many lovely words and sentences starting with the same letter. We also listened to the sounds of different means of transport and tried to write those down using the sounds in a creative way. Well done, Year 2! Next week we’ll be writing our poems and soon we will be performing them!

In MATHS we continued working with fractions, and this week we tried recognising, finding, naming and writing fractions 1/3,1/2,and 3/4 of a length, shape and set of objects or quantity.

I was a great thinker and thought of lots of spooky wow words in Literacy this week.

I showed great cooperation working with my team in science.

I have been resilient when practising my spelling at Phonics.

I am a respectful learner and listen carefully to my friends.

Our next Talk Topic is ….what makes you happy??

IPC Learning Journey

We have enjoyed being scientists this week learning all about gravity and air resistance. We made our own parachutes using different materials and tested them out to find out which material was the best to use. We had lots of questions and ideas about which materials would be best. Before we could test our parachutes we needed to make sure our investigation was fair. This meant we could only change one thing in our investigation, everything else needed to stay the same. It was so much fun watching our parachutes fall to the ground. Some fell quickly whilst others fell slowly and gently.

Year 1

In LITERACY we have been practising writing plurals using fun rules and rhymes to help us.
To keep up the good work try this game at home:

http://www.phonicsplay.co.uk/PondLifePlurals.html

In MATHS we have been making links between repeated addition and multiplication. This has helped our understanding of multiplication problems and given us some strategies to support our learning. It was tricky at first but we were all resilient and now we’re getting the hang of it. Multiplication is cool!

Year 2

In LITERACY we started a unit about poetry. First we practised with rhyme. We identified rhyme in different poems about transport and we made up rhymes ourselves. This was quite tricky. Some of us also started with alliteration. Can you spot the alliteration? Mr Benn sat on his soft, silky sofa with a big, blue blanket.
Next week we’ll focus on some other poetic devices, so we can write our own poems later.

In MATHS we used objects to find halves, quarters and three quarters by sharing sets of objects and quantities. We used the fraction circles and green skittles from our division boxes and brass animals to help us, allowing us to feel, as well see fractions like 1/2, 1/4, 3/4, and a whole.

I have been a great thinker in my multiplication lessons this week!

I have been a great communicator sharing my learning with my friends.

I really enjoyed learning all about parachutes this week and did some super thinking.

I have been trying really hard to make the right choices.

MP1 were very lucky to have our families come and visit our HISTORY lesson this week. We showed them different pictures of mythical transport like the flying caret, Neptune’s chariot and Pegasus the flying horse. Everyone then joined in creating our own images of these famous historical stories. Things got a little messy but we were very proud of the finished result. Take a look below at our work in action below…

Year 1

In LITERACY this week we have continued our learning on poetry. We started the week reflecting on our poetry knowledge and the different features we could use e.g. rhyme, alliteration and similes. We then used these features to create our own version of a poem all about CHOCOLATE! First, we worked together on a team poem and showed super cooperation skills. This helped prepare us for writing our own poems independently. We took great care and communicated our ideas using the different features on our tool kit to make our writing interesting to read.

In MATHS we have been reflecting on some of our learning over this learning block; fractions and shapes. It was interesting to think about how much new learning we have done and how we are always growing as a learner.

Year 2

In LITERACY we continued our work on Rumplestiltskin. We tried really had writing our stories and added lots of detail.

In MATHS we have been practising division word problems. In addition,we have also been consolidating our understanding of subtraction with and without regrouping using bank stamp tiles.

I showed great knowledge and cooperation in Literacy this week when helping my team write our poem.

I was a super thinker in Literacy this week and shared similes with the class.

I have been a great learner in all of my lessons and always try my best.

I tried really hard in Maths this week when solving multiplication and division problems.

Reminder: Come and join MP1 for our Family Learning Day Monday 3rd April.

IPC Learning Journey

There are sooooo many different types of transport all over the world. This week we have been busy finding and sorting different types of transport. We were amazed at some of the inventions out there, like the bamboo train, airbus, tuk-tuk, bullet train and loads more! We started by sorting transport into groups e.g. land, water or air. In HISTORY we then began to look at how transport has changed over time and found out some fascinating facts along the way.

Year 1

In LITERACY we have been learning our poetry. We listened to Michael Rosen’s Chocolate Cake. It was so funny! We tried to use all our senses to help us think of different wow words to describe chocolate. It made us very hungry. Next week we will be writing our own versions of a chocolate poem, it will be delicious!

In MATHS we consolidated our learning on fractions 1/2 and 1/4. We also learnt about 1/2 and 1/4 turns. We had lots of fun playing ‘Simon Says…’ using the vocabulary half, quarter and whole turns. Do you know you can even find halves and quarters on the clock!? Fractions are everywhere!

Year 2

In MATHS, we continued working on subtraction with and without re-grouping. We also worked in our groups to consolidate our understanding of addition, subtraction and multiplication. New knowledge for us this week was division. We used division boards and bank stamp tiles to help us learn the concept of division.

In LITERACY we continued our work about
Rumplestiltskin. We wrote about the setting of the story and we described the characters. We have improved so much talking about characters and settings of stories!
We also wrote questions to asked the different characters of the story, we had to remember to use question marks.
After we looked at the different sentence openers, for example; Suddenly, After, The next day, etc. to make our writing more interesting.
Next week we start writing the story using everything we collected in our toolkit. How exciting!

I am a respectful and principled learner.

I did some great learning about 3D shapes!

I was a great thinker in Maths adding numbers together.

I am a very principled learner because I try to make the right choices.
